So you want the military working on social solutions?

to me that starts to skirt into some very dark ugly areas.

You mean like to help build public housing or to set up medical facilities for the poor in rural areas (like they were doing in Africa during the ebola crisis)? Just because your mind is dark and ugly doesn't mean that this program is.

Yea it all sounds good but do you really buy this hype cover story? Think about what.....set up medical facilities in rural areas for the poor? What the heck does that mean.....set up a tent and pass out aspirin? Who needs public housing built when we have section 8 and all that. Think really long and hard if you need to about these great sounding cover stories.

Listen here to Hitler....read subtitles.

Yeah, helping Native Americans get equal access to education and public housing for the poor really makes me sick. /sarc

I guess you guys think the Peace Corps was the devils work too, huh.

This program looks very similar to the Peace Corps except it focuses public service in our own country instead of other countries.

I guess you didn't read the part about it being TOTALLY VOLUNTARY. It's not like the government is forcing young people into this program. It's for young people who want to help their fellow Americans but don't really know how to go about it. It will help teach these youth how to bring groups together for the good of others. You know, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." But I suppose you guys think Kennedy was Hitler.

Helping people is the Guise that Commie Marxists like President Obama use to promote their agenda, which is the only thing they will be doing.
They always promise those who are impoverished in any way with great promises but they NEVER DELIVER, and even if some things are realized, the true intent is to get support so they can carry out what they are really after.

You have already been played by a very well mentored sack of vomit. By granting amnesty to millions of illegals, thousands of which are convicted felons, who have already committed more crimes, were also told and promised many things to come here and vote for the promise maker.

But as long as you feel comfortable believing an already exposed LIAR in Chief, believe it anyway.

Every group who he made promises to before the first election are still much worse off than they were before.

but doesn't this program has aspects within it that would help breed those leaders among our young people? The University of Pheonix isn't an Ivy League School and more than likely has students from all classes of society that this program is open to take advantage of.
I guess it's a matter how much faith you have in the young people today as opposed to how much mistrust you have in the gov't/military/corporate alliances. I think that those alliances are gonna run over the good intentions the young people may have. I'm afraid I don't have much trust in my gov't.
But it was the generation of young people who lived and fought during WW2 that reshaped the world into what we have now and gee wasn't there a program similar to this then? And well in my opinion our world needs another makeover since what we have is about at an end. New inventions and new ways to do things since the old is no longer serving us. The time is now and if the US doesn't get into the game we are gonna lose that race! All the gov't/military/corporate alliances are doing is finding new and better ways to cling onto the old (and the profits it gives them). If this unleashes our young and empowers them to go after the visions they have why not? It's not like they are doing much now after graduation except living at home with mom and dad with their low paying jobs and tons of college debt!
It's their future they are reshaping not my generation.

yes those lovely social welfare programs are working so well!! We don't need any improvements in them do we?
How long are the lines when they hand out the vouchers for section 8 compared to the number of vouchers they have.
And how efficient is the housing setup in this country with it's failing electrical grid, tons of zombie homes being held by banks, tent cities, and well rush hour traffic congestion on our roadways? Heck the city I live in has main waterlines breaking at least once a month!

Hey, like I said I think SOME good will come of it. My distrust is not in the government which I think based strictly on probability has to have genuine people trying to serve their people. Its the school of thought which Obama is a proponent of that bothers me.

If this was just a way to get average people in a position that enables them to become leaders then fine. That would be excellent. The thing is I am fairly certain that a high degree of programming will be placed in them and that they need to fall in line with it in order to make it to the end of the program. In essence they are going to breed generic mouthpieces that are highly influenced by the already failing leadership. They are not leaders if they are only shown the tools to lead.

If they gave them the tools with no mandatory direction that would be better. If you only breed the same type of leadership as that which is failing us then there is no point. They should be allowed to think and do as they see fit. They are going to be leaders no? Then why make them propped up puppets?

That is the mindset of our leaders. To not actually allow a voice they dont control. They want new ideas but not from minds they can not control. They in essence want people to become like them, not to learn from the human race at any given moment. What they learn from the people is only ways to govern them more easily.

They will never allow a general or a colonel they dont appoint to be a free mind fresh from the populace without a mind that is their creation. They will never allow a captain of industry to be anyone but one of their own or someone they control completely.

I would rather trust a general who made it from the ground up who is only interested in our security and prosperity...like the old school ones were, or a captain of industry who simply worked hard and made it to the top without oweing too many favors to the corporate or financial world that has basically failed us just as bad as government.

If they want to fail then fine. If they truly want to preserve what has been built, then they need to overcome the fear of not being in control and allow organic leaders to grow and develop freely.

You cant make a real leader your bitch without taking away everything that is beneficial about him /her.

and you are expressing all of the misgivings I have about this very well.
still doesn't change the fact that this is the generation that must chart us a new course and neither us or "they" have a choice over weather or not this course is to be charted. The old is dying and it is these young people that will discover the new.
we all know that those who currently hold the power will be doing everything they can to maintain enough control to maintain that power. They seem to cling to the old for as long as they can but they cannot cling forever since the destruction that it would cause if they succeeded will cause their demise as well..
Call it the new world order or whatever you like but unless the new is brought in, the old will rot into oblivion with nothing to take it's place.
to have our young people given the pathway to be involved in the creating this new doesn't scare me as much as leaving up to those who are clinging to the old for fear of losing their market share to the new!

and I have to ask
would this be so objectionable if it came from a republican president instead of obama?

Oh I dont care one bit about partisan allegiances. I am neither. It could come from anyone of them.

I dont mind this program, or even fear it. I too am more fearful of the OLD as you say trying to change the future. I hope nothing of the old survives mostly. If it were up to me I would have reset the entire world long ago.

Have a good one.
Hold it down.

gee I don't know would you rather have a future with a failed electrical grid based on fossil fuels or one that works and is based on a new self replenishing energy source? Someone somewhere will come up with the "new" and the country that brings it into the markets first will be the world leaders of the future! If we don't tap into the creativity and unleash it's power within our younger generations instead of wasting so much money trying to preserve the dinosaurs soon we will lose all hope of being anywhere close in the race. That's if we haven't already lost it.

I would rather be diverting our resources to the homefront and trying to figure out how to solve the problems we have here instead of funding this big arse military complex that's main purpose seems to be to keep the rest of the world stuck in a world where no advancement is made toward a better future because it would be too costly for a select segment of industries that we as a nation just happen to profit from.

The old will die and well the choice is between leading the path to the new future or to languish in the ruins until that future finds it's way to us.

The old taught the new what and how to think. What can the new possibly come up with that is substantively different than anything we've seen from the old?

I say to hell with progress and advancement. Scrap it all. What you call "progress" is only made on the backs of slaves. Always has been, always will be.

Is it all worth it?

I don't know I think the younger generations begin with some wonderful ideas and often times even try to act upon them until the older generations step in and punish them for acting in various ways. And well as they grow older they get hardened and more and more cynical and eventually fall in line.

But well there seems to be just as many advantages of being a third world nation as there are of being a 1st world nation so hey go for it if you wish!

Wow - that sounds like something the Taliban or ISIS would say. Let's go backwards to the good ole days of the 13th century, shall we?

The thirteenth century... where? Because in the western hemisphere, the thirteenth century was a pre-Colombian paradise, untouched by European filth and ideological corruption.

This is an excellent example of what I'm talking about. They've got you so locked into that mode of thinking, that you imagine the power going out and all you can think of is European dark-age squalor and oppression (or Muslim military conquest). I see the power going out as an opportunity to erase everything the European paradigm has brought us and restore our paradise to us as best we can.

That probably sounds crazy to you. So be it. That's exactly what I'm talking about.
