Pepper spray. If that doesn't work, Bear Replant.

Luckily I haven't lived in a neighborhood for a while that needed such precautions.

Also, baseball bats as a visual deterrent help immensely when standing ones ground.

Damn right!!! Base, Angle, Leaver. Proper technique and body structure/alignment with your opponent is everything. Amazing how similar and fluid up right Jujitsu and Dumog are.
