Meh, it's not that important. I Don't worry about the authorities because I don't break any laws of particular importance. If anyone wanted to know anything about me, they can feel free to ask. I think anonymity is an illusion anyway, for the most part these days.

Hey nonspecific, just found this thread after searching/clicking on you after replying to Mrs nonspecific just now...had a thought that I hadn't seen you in any threads lately and wondered if you'd been on in a while.

On-topic, I don't worry about 'authorities' finding me online or whatever. I don't use a proxy, so as in a real world sense where I don't wear a hoody and sunshades in CCTV streets I am easy to trace if such organisations wish to do so.
There is nothing on my laptop or phone which will result in prosecution, and I will always stand by my words against authority in any interview, and with any 'bad cop'.

I have a really really really really uncommon old family name though so even on fakebook I'm just first and middle name (and identify myself to non-official strangers the same) if only to ensure that any psycho nut I may meet in the world does not have the advantage of finding anything about me as easy as it is to google a taxi number.

...and in any case on this most excellent internet debate forum, all of our wildly differing opinions and perspectives are way more important than our formal legal identities.
Usernames and the words they contribute are the 'people' I imagine...their real name is unimportant to me.

What anonymity? To the people that matter, you aren't anonymous. To everyone else, so what?

...there are some crazy folk in the world though!
As I said earlier, my real name comes up with me on google, nobody else, and I'd rather not have crazies able to find my home address so easily, no matter how unlikely.
I don't expect to injure myself in work but I have a first aid kit in my bag...sensible precautions is all.

The point is that anonymity really doesn't exist on the internet if you know what you are doing.

Yeah true, but the average psycho will struggle to find grainofsand if they do not have access to the ATS IP logs.
They would however find me in a second or two by googling my real name.
I know which I prefer. I don't worry about government agencies because being arrested in the UK is not at all scary and rarely results in death or injury.

Just google your screen name and see what comes up..

I did that. I googled FlyersFan Abovetopsecret.
Some strange untrue stories about me came up.
People have wild imaginations.

To answer the OPs question -

How important is your ATS anonymity?

It's vitally important to me.

Yea that's true. That's why I refrain from using my real name on these boards. I'll give other information about myself, but my name stays private. I've made quite a few enemies here at ATS with the way I tear down Christian beliefs.

OK,

Always assume every keystroke, text, conversation, etc. is not anonymous to the government ever.

Being anonymous to other users / public is essential. Never know when some crazy is going to do something stupid because they don't like what you posted.
