An idea that may not have been proposed, could be helpful. (Staff input necessary if not too busy)

A difficult one I'm about to propose...



How about alerts when someone @'s someone else's name like on Twitter.



We have a lot of experts in many fields who may miss threads where the expertise is necassary.
A quick @ could alert them like a normal message for their 2 cents!



I know we could just as easily private message them...
I guess that alternative will be kept as opposed to trying this idea out.


I presuppose that, because it may be a difficult one to work into the system.

I was thinking this just the other day, so if you saw a post and you thought that a certain member would have a contribution to make you could tag them and they would recieve an alert.

SO likes twitter for good reason so I imagine it's crossed his mind and if it can be done I for one would like to see it.

Half the crap on ATS doesn't always work right, can we even type the word window yet? why add to it?

I'll say this though, there seems to be an uptick in user experience requests. Perhaps maybe it's time for a new overhaul. Anyone up for writing a new platform? I'm sure they're (the owners) are up for it, just keep the donations coming.

You can't type it at the end of a sentance and have a . afterwards unless they fixed it, window.

Example...

We have some excellent scientists here...

Not naming names as its a T&C to talk about members...


But say you type in "@ATSMemberName" they'd get an alert in a science thread they might have missed.

Only problems I have is with the search engine...

As an alternative I just type what I would have typed into Google and it refines it a little better.


I accept that ATS is not primarily a search engine anyways, so it's no bother.

A government spy agency.

I like the system on Reddit. Type in /u/username and they get an alert.

It would turn into total mess, many people tweeting to someone. Threads would start a flame war as all alerted to ones view would be instantly in thread. There would not be privacy and any respect to someone to have some.

I just PM the member and invite them to join the convo. Seems to work ok. Just not as convenient as Charlies idea.

It would also make mods work to impossible mission. Mods they have now, would not be enough, most likely even 10xmods would be in trouble. It would be intresting to see this for one day thought.. i could take time how long it takes to me to sign out.
