Interestingly, both men and women, in ancient Egypt, wore make up.

The first evidence of makeup appeared in ancient Egypt in about 4,000 BC. Apparently Egyptian makeup served to protect against the weather and to better their looks. They used uguent to moisturize the skin and kohl to highlight their eye features. One can see from surviving paintings and busts that both men and women used makeup with special attention being paid to the eyes.

That's why those ancient Egyptians aren't around anymore. The enemy knew the soldiers would spend an hour putting makeup on and didn't want to mess up their faces.

Good question!

Throughout history, women have been the "maternal" half of the species, raising families and charged with running households. Men held the real power, and attracting them into a marriage required more than a smile and saucy personality.

Today women hold more power, and we can marry for love. But we still wear make-up to hide facial defects and enhance our best features. Besides attracting the opposite sex, and being presentable in an office/professional job, it makes US feel better about ourselves, when we know we look our best.

So here's a question for you: What female facial feature do you notice first? Eyes? Smile? There is makeup to enhance all that.

I personally don't have a preference when it comes to womens makeup. I like them with or with out it. Less is usually more.

I don't like it though when they use too much foundation and cover. When they cake that on it's a turn off.

However, I do like when women do their eyes. Not necessarily the eye liner, but the eye shadow. I'm a sucker for a girl who does her eye shadow just right. Not too heavy, but enough so that it's interesting. To me good eye shadow is like art and a way for women to be creative and express themselves. The variations of colors and highlighting of various parts of the eye is actually kinda fascinating to me. Eyes are also the first thing I look at when I talk to a woman. So I don't mind having something interesting to look at when making conversation.

Since I'm admitting things right now. I also pay attention to the lips and what they do there too. Not so much the shaping with the lip liner but the color choices. I think its fun. And, I admit I get weak when a girl applies lip gloss, and I secretly try to keep from getting distracted or falling over.

False eye lashes are a no no for me. Just use mascara or some lash extender. Healthy long NATURAL Eyelashes are beautiful but glue and eye lids should not go together. To me flasies are actually kinda repulsive. But to each there own I guess.

I dunno. I'm not into a girl who over does it and tries too hard. Dressing skanky or slutty won't help their cause either with me. A Nordstrom catalog is more my style than a forever 21 catalog. OK well there are some things I like that women wear from Forever 21. But Boston Proper or Nordstroms is much more sexy to me. Personally it's not necessarily what a women wears but how she accessorizes that gets my attention. I like it when a women takes the time to accessorize and throw on a nice pair of earing or necklace or bracelet to accentuate their outfit. Business Casual with some accessories does it for me. Also certain textile or fabrics. I guess it's some sort of weird fetish. Bassplyr the weirdo.

As far as the side by side photo of that women. She looks fantastic without the make up. She looks great with it. I don't think she over did anything. I would have preferred less eye liner and foundation to not overemphasize her eyes and to let more of her natural skin tone to shine through. But I wouldn't complain about her either way.

My husband always said the same as you, but I was wearing makeup when he met me and he liked the way I looked.

Of course there is always the possibility that men in general notice women who are "dolled up" but then when they marry said woman they start telling the woman they prefer them natural because they don't want other males seeing their mate still "dolled up"

That's exactly the scenario that played out in my house. He was fine with receiving compliments about me before we were married, but after he changed his approach. I just shook my head and said nothing. After all, what he didn't get is that we often dress to look good for ourselves and our friends too, not to 'catch a man'. We just try to look the best we can.

Men will never be able to understand that, & even if they do, they will never be able to control their rampant jealousy.

If it's any consolation, if a woman is wearing too much makeup, I would never tell her she looks good, in fact I tell them they would look better with less makeup. So maybe all men aren't like your husband.
Not sure my brand of courtship is much better, LoL!

yeah I agree the chick is aight either way
depends on her personality is

my first thought was she would not post to public 'her real face' if she was not ok with who she is

the quote i know..I dont know if u guys have in in eng ..'girls without make up are naked.. (I don't know the expression in English )is very true in my opinion

it took me a while to be comfortable to be 'naked in public'

yeah i'm dating a girl every now and then.
she looks like a porn star.
but i don't think she'll get me.

why?
because of the make up. i just can't stand it.

so it's not always a benefit for women. i bet many guys are crazy about her though.

That's also an issue which is not easily addressed or compromised on in the bounds of a relationship.

You'd prob be better off with someone less materialistic, anyways.

A woman could be dumb as rocks, so long as she doesn't vote, never wears makeup or heels, & thinks materialistic society is evil, Id date her.

When I first joined ATS, I was hoping it would be more like OKCupid for conspiracy theorists
