New Zealand is "selling out" its close relations with the Pacific nations to be close with the United States, author Nicky Hager has said.

Hager, in conjunction with the New Zealand Herald and the Intercept news site, revealed today how New Zealand's spies are targeting the entire email, phone and social media communications of the country's closest, friendliest and most vulnerable neighbors.

The revelations, based on documents supplied by United States fugitive and whistleblower Edward Snowden, expose a heavy focus on "full-take collection" from the Pacific with nearly two dozen countries around the world targeted by our Government Communications Security Bureau.

This story confirms the Snowden revelations regarding Xkeyscore with regard to widespread spying by the 5 eyes security state. Everyone is the target. No one can expect the same level of security in their communications as we had when envelopes secured our personal mail communications. Can you imagine if every piece of mail were opened, cataloged and filed away in some government database? That is what is happening.

In NZ this has mostly been greeted with a collective yawn, and "Yeah...so..and your point is?"

Cyber spying is anonymous and quite easy to do. The US as had to resort to desperate tactics since committing heinous war crimes for ten years and intervening petroleum resources formerly under contract by Russia and China. ISIS are boy-scouts compared to what Russia and China would like to do to America.
