Not to complicate matters, but there is a growing element in society (particular in terms of gay male society) of what's called "gay for pay" porn performers.

I assure you that men who are unabashedly straight can learn to do all the mechanical activities associated with intimacy and seem (at least) to be really enjoying it.

I was put in mind of this when we were talking about "not liking grapefruit, but being able to eat it."

Not sure how this effects the question, but I might say that the "gay for pay" phenomenon is closest to Dr. Carson's theory about jail time causing men to "choose" to be gay.

Come on now, we all know eye-colour is dependant on the social environment we are raised in, and the eye-colour-influences in our early lives!

if God wanted men and woman to be attracted to their own sex he would not have destroyed Sodom and Gomorah.

That's a misconception most Christians believe for some strange reason. Sodom and Gomorrah have never been about homosexuality.

Ok back on track.

You would think an all perfect being would have thought of something better than destroying an entire city to kill those who sinned along with the innocents.

For instance..do I throw away an entire meal if it contains a few a peas(which I hate) or pick them out.

I'll state that we can control our sexual preferences when someone can show me how to control my eye color.

(sneaks back out. . . )

Notably, that's about how it seems to me in my own experience.

(Of course, back in the 90s, we did have designer color contact lenses ... )

So perhaps, we can mask our real desires, but not change them.

That's what I'm saying. I didn't choose the things that I desire, I just desire them.

I'm straight and that wasn't a choice, ever. Just is. I have no problem with gay people and have a really close friend that is gay. It doesn't bother me at all, yet the idea of two men sexually is icky to me and I want nothing to do with it. Oddly enough he feels the same way about sex with women.

But it wasn't a choice for either of us, it just is.

There's pills that can make you feel up for pretty much anything these days.

But having said that, do you really, REALLY think the guys that do this are "unabashedly straight"? Or that they just might be bisexual to some degree. I mean, come on haha.

Greed ,the need to survive(needing the money) or fear makes their choices for them. I am also pretty sure those people are bisexual.

Wrong person!

So now you're discussing the act?

Rather than the "desire" to act?

Listen, believe what you like.

Just don't try to state that it's a fact, when in fact, it's just an opinion.

You'd have to ask the ones who choose it what they believe the benefits are...

I'm done.

This is conflated nonsense.

Can't say I have ever thought about having sex with another man..has never crossed my mind. If it doesn't interest me..I don't think about it.

Well, I have to say, some of them are pretty talented actors ... but no, if they say that they're straight, I have to believe them. "That way lies madness" for a gay man.

Yes, as far as porn goes, I know Viagra helps. I know that porn is mostly illusion. But, that was the most reasonable example I could conceive of for a person making "a choice" to act (sexually) gay ... in line with Dr. Carson's comments, about prisoners.

Sorry alien, it was supposed to be for charlie...

I'm discussing both. Why are you getting so pissed anyway. I never said it was absolute fact but it's much closer then believing that all pedophiles choose to be that way.

Not even you can come up with any reason they would choose it yet you still believe that they make the conscious choice to have those desires??? That makes no sense....

They choose to act on them sure, and that is a choice, but I don't think they have the option to choose liking adults and just decide for some reason that they should like kids instead.

Right, I understand that. But again, if they say they're straight, ... how can we know? We can't read minds.

I'm heterosexual, but hell while I find men to be the most attractive to me, once in a while I have to say that is some women that darn they look very good to me too, but my choice is for the opposite sex.

This. I am a heterosexual woman - have NEVER had sex with another woman - but, I have thought "wow, she's a beauty" about some women, and even watched their limbs move beneath their clothes - and admired how lovely they were.....

but - just the THOUGHT of having sex with them, or touching their 'private parts' is revolting.

Do I tell my best girlfriends "I love you"? Yes, I do. And it's true - I love them. I DO NOT want to have sex with them, or imagine them having sex with another woman (or anyone for that matter). But, I'm able to appreciate the beauty of the female form.

I am an absolute Hetero - and attracted to tall, dark, slender bad-boy types. They're not good for me, but I still have no choice in the matter - they turn me on.

The 'accountant' types in suits; close-shaven, driving BMWs and wearing polished tasselled loafers, who have huge bank accounts and lots of credit cards don't do ANYTHING for me.
Give me an outdoor type - a jeans-clad, hiking-boots kind of guy with a two-day shadow, rumpled hair, and a wrinkled flannel shirt ANY DAY, and I'm ready.

I hear ya. Still, I'm capable of seeing the beauty in other women; and thankfully, I'm old enough now not to feel "jealous" or "territorial" about them. I lived those days. Now I'm a mature woman, post-menopause, and I'm happy for those young women who are just starting out their lives.

Do I watch porn? No, I don't. Not between any combination of genders. Would I watch two women? No, it gags me even to think about it. What two men do together, I don't want to think about either.

That's all I wanted to say.

Exactly. You desire what you desire. Even if it's not good for you, it's not a conscious choice to be made. The only choice is whether or not you act on it.

What? NO! I just said, I'm attracted to rugged, outdoors type men - and yes, they turn me on.
By definition, you are mistaken.

Thanks for your concern, though.

I'll manage.

ETA: Oh - well - thanks for the apology.
