I believe in the power of prayer. The placebo and nocebo effect are both very very powerful. The power of belief has shown almost miraculous abilities to heal our mind and bodies as well as harm them.

The problem is, people like to pick and choose their miracles. The power of faith and belief has healed people from all faiths and walks of life not just Christianity. It has also caused people to lie down and die for no other reason than some shaman or witch doctor told them they would. Curses work, so does faith healing, miracle tonics, and sugar pills if the person truly believes in it.

The problem is, that level of faith is rare, and many people can never reach it. Which is something those that have it don't understand and refuse to. The ability to have true faith in something is, like blue eye color, something you are either born with or you are not. Heck it's practically a super power, it's awesome, if being used to heal yourself rather than harm you.

But, that faith and the power of it is hardly limited to Christianity. As such, it's not proof of Christianity or any of the other beliefs that create the effects we're discussing. All they really are is proof of the miraculous healing power of the mind.

Faith can kill, faith can heal, if one has faith it can be good or bad depending on who or what you have faith in, be it Christianity, some shaman in the amazon, witchdoctor in Africa, or some miracle tonic, or well most anything really.

It's deniable because the evidence is weak.

Not unlike how Christians claim prayer really does physically heal the body because god answers the prayers. Meanwhile god seemingly ignores most prayers, and of course never heals amputees. All suggestive that if it 'works' then it's psychosomatic as Puppylove suggests.

That's the peculiar thing with your kind of reasoning. It never really addresses all the times it doesn't 'work'. How many times has someone uttered the lord's prayer only to have disaster strike anyways?

It requires a very strange combination of absolute belief and denial.
