New idea for the site: A mod generated WATS score for each threads content?

Some threads are way above top secret. So I thought, if members can have WATS scores why can't threads? It would make finding awesome threads a lot easier especially if archive dwellers used it to highlight good content they come across.... You could build a WATS hall of fame for the most WAT threads... Or a simple WATS leader board for most WAT threads of all time.

The rating system could be a simple drop down menu with a wats rating between say, 0 (default / unlisted thread) & 20 (C.A.T.S. - completely above top secret thread)... for example.

I said in the title mod generated, but perhaps you can open it to all forum members or a select few who meet certain criteria.

What do you think?

or a select few who meet certain criteria.

Remove all stars, flags and applause. They aren't even used correctly.

People are getting starred just because of who they are nowadays.

Threads are getting shorter, fringe topics that were once talked about safely on here, have now been met with, "did you forget to take your meds?".

I think that's a brillaint idea.

Maybe the "mod" could put a little 'R' for real or a little 'F' for fake on each thread so we know whether it's true or not?

i really don't care about the stars , flags or any point scoring , we are all old enough to make our own decision as to what is worthy of following or not.

What i would really like is some kind of share button like we can see for the face book site .
it would make life so much easier in linking stuff on here.

when i try to link stuff i always mess it up , to the point that i don't even try any more .

Or a gentle f&r temperature gauge, that lightly changes the tint and hue of the threads background colour as mods read through it

Red = utter bs. Purple = real?

It's not that hard Tom.

Use your cursor to bring down the http address from the top of the screen.

Click on it to select the full address. It will become highlighted in blue.

Then access the drop down menu on the far right of the same line. Click copy.

Now go to your FB page or email or wherever you want to "share" and with the cursor in the body of the post, use the same drop down menu as before and click paste.

Done.

PM me if you have any trouble.

Your post would be fire engine red, by that standard.

I forget to add that it could be selected like the black and white button the site already has. Not a permanent thing in the thread, only by choice... Lol

Maybe you don't like the temperature gauge idea, I get it neither did i, but i didn't like your idea much either tbh

The scoring system is broken and I would be wary of trusting all moderators, besides it shouldn't be about popularity.

Exactly, it should be about thread content.
And not necessarily the opening post. But anything contained in the thread worthy of giving the thread a WATS rating.

So you want another way that we are
'supposed to think' rammed down
our throats against our will?

I'm starting to lose count of the ways
this has been implemented in society
and on the Internet as it is.

Youre post is just silly..
Its not a way to think, its a way of highlighting awesome content..
A non intrusive wats score next to the rest of the stats on threads..
It could help for example in the followong scenario where a thread had really great content in really awesome posts by members but a really bad opening post or one that doesn't say much but leads to much being said. But usually it results in a lot fewer views from other me!bers presumably because most members are already prejudging threads by their stats before they read them and post in them.. This would be a way to provide a different insight into the threads content besides member flags...

So you would agree with my idea if it was open to all members?

We already have too many bells and whistles - not really sure what this adds.
We need more focus on the content and less on colours or WATS or flags and stars.

Whatever... yeah it's a great idea, rock on!!

Any system you come up with will be 'gamed';
and there are trust issues with moderators
the same as with any other member.

I'm not saying anything different than the
other responders really; maybe just spelling
it out more.
