In the event of a National Crisis President Bush has ordered plans for the temporary shutdown of the GPS network of satellites inside America except for military access. According to President Bush and other officials this is not
something that would be done without much forethought and extreme circumstances.

The shutdown of the GPS network would severly effect the Maritime and Commercial Aviation industries as it is a vital part of these industries. The DHS has also been asked to check into limiting access to Land Navigation Satellites and other up and coming Navigational Aids such as the European Unions Galileo.
