www.cbc.ca...

Heres some real pets for you.....These loyal and energetic teams will compete in a race through the frozen arctic wastes....
Man and his dogs against the odds.....
The link explains the details of this annual event.
I am wondering just how many pet owners would find this a cruelty to animals issue.........

I'm sure that some find this to be cruelty, but the dogs LIVE for the run and they are extremely well taken care of at every step along the way.

I have found that the happiest dogs are those that have jobs and are well cared for.

Dogs are ALWAYS happiest when working with their master......
They live for our companionship and approval, but we are the instigators....
Does this perhaps endow us with the obligation to refuse to abuse that trust?
Some of these animals will possibly die or at least suffer great hardships for our entertainment.....

How interesting...I never really followed this before.

I love all dogs and would cheerfully maim anyone that hurts them, however, I think that some dogs are "born to run" like the pups that participate in this race...so no harm no foul. They LOVE IT.

Thanks for the info. S&F

I think youse miss the point...have you no culpability?
Do you think it is morally responsible to abuse animals for our pleasure...
Surely you understand this is a race that will test the endurance and stamina of some of these beauties to the point of death?
Its a godamn race! Its not nessessary.......only for your pleasure and entertainment...not the dogs!

Working up in Iqaluit, we had the first had opportunity to see and understand just how these animals are really treated when they are not in harness......
They remained chained up in the open weather on the beach of the arctic sea for the whole of the warm season....with their owners dropping down to the shore to feed them occasionally....and I do mean occaisionally.....

If these dogs are meant to run, they certainly didn't get the chance to hardly stretch their legs for the warm season....

A sick dog gets a bullet in the head...not a veterinarian visit....
They would kill and eat the pups of other dogs should chance allow....
Yeah sure aint that cute and humane treatment.......not!
