Funny, I have seen it myself but coming from those that are US citizens or posting from the States.

Acknowledged. Read the thread.

a majority of us are hypocrites in one way or another and are bigoted to something if not a little of everything.

Sure. So what? Don't discuss slurs? Pfft.

So how do you feel about those that use the term you are ranting about?

I don't feel anything. And my feelings are irrelevant.

The point of the post - people use the term and don't realize, or don't care, that it's a slur.

I notice all of it.

I believe that, certainly here on this website (which is one of only two that I socially network on) I am very tuned in to this sort of language, because an attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us. This is my family we are talking about, so whether its people bashing my country, or your country, I will be taking notice.

Calling a person from Japan a Jap.
Chinese a Chink or Chin
Italian a Wop or Ginny
A German a Kraut
Mexican a Spic
Anyone from the Middle East an A-Rab

How many Japanese people call other Japaneses people Japs?

How many Chinese people call other Chinese people Chinks?

So on and so forth with all the others you mentioned?

Truth be told I have seen or heard or read I should say more people from the States use the term than any other nationality, I actually thought its American Slang to have a crack at Republicans.

eurinals

"Eurinals"...hm....I love it. Will use it.

To you people who use this wording ... you have freedom of speech so you can show your bigotry and use it ... but don't go getting all insulted if someone tosses derogatory and obnoxious slurs at you and/or your country, slurs based on your ethnicity or culture or country. For you to do so would be hypocritical.

I really couldn't care less...insult away.

The day I start getting insulted by random internet persons...is the day I'll quit the net.

America, Canadians, Mexicans, Peruvians,

You just blew your own argument out of the water. Those names do show which part we're from. And if you didn't notice, we're the only country that actually says "United States Of America", hence Americans
Ahhh, ok.... So you 'mericans thunk you own the whole of South America and North America.... i get it now....

Oh, well, I'm sure that anyone who likes to use a slur can think of people for whom that term fits perfectly well and thus justify their use of the slur.

That doesn't mean it is appropriate to use the slur.

No it fits perfectly.

Not exactly the same ... but very much like it.

You're losing ground here...

All I know is that it was made famous by Democrats regarding the Bush Admin & KnowYourMeme which is an American website...

& it's regarded as slang rather than a slur...

As I said...

It's all about perceptions.

OP Step back and look at this.
What i get from this is "I'm offended. If you use this word, I think you are wrong and this is why I want everyone to stop saying it"
Are we really supposed to be forcing our own beliefs on others?

Well that depends. Are you using the terms in order to just dismiss someone and their concerns because ... 'merican? That's what slurs do. They let you delegitimize someone and their concerns by denigrating.

Believe or not. I don't care.
As someone said ... random internet people.

Bottom line - it's not cute and it's not hip. it's a slur.
It should be acknowledged as such.

I get what you are saying, but in my opinion, the 'Muricans are the people that will proclaim to love their country under God to the bitter end. At the same time, they will be all for war (just because it's fun to kill stuff). Not the ones who love their country and are willing to accept there is another way of life out there.

I'm Canadian. It doesn't bother me in the least if people hurt my feelings. I'll just go to the hospital and get them checked for free.

My self worth is not tied up in what other people think of me.

A slur is a slur is a slur is a slur.

Doesn't matter WHO uses it.

It's HOW it's being used: malicious intent.

I know many will say: Meh, it's not so bad.

But for some, that is like saying: Oh you were called a B##ch? Nah, that's nothing. They could have called you the C word.

Any type of slur is bad. Period.

Again: There is NO call for it, NO reason to use it, and NO excuse for it.

No not only in my mind, certainly not...

In your contradictory post that said its "a perfect fit" & "not exactly the same"...

Please do not try to insult my intelligence with ad hominem implying I'm being delusional because it's unbecoming and an obvious lie.

You said it. Now own it.

Strange... I see people from everywhere and all affiliations using it but mostly Conservative Americans these days (it's rather old now so I don't think hip is apt) they seem to have swapped it in for Amerika.

That kinda proves my earlier point. People point and say 'mericans in a slur type manner when the Americans believe in something that goes against the slurrers ideals.

Like 2nd Amendment rights. Like church goers.
Military veterans. People who like McDonalds. Whatever.
It can be used as a slur due to politics and culture.

Try all you like, you know you put your foot in it.
You, yourself, gave the description of every region that each identify with. Did you ever hear someone from Mexico say they're from North America? Or a person from Canada say they're North American? No? Hmmm.

I've seen people on the political right use the term 'Amerikans' to describe those on the left. That's a sneer and a smear and it should be acknowledged as such.

I've given the equivalent examples.
Go back and read until it sinks in.
