absolutely there most likely wont be an official warning of anything.
they cannot predict with accuracy the when to a time frame that's is of much use
and the greater the likely magnitude the less warning there is likely to be as has been said
just how do you safely evacuate half the Midwest and where to?

with a single cone like St Helens its just about possible and even then
there are still deaths.

what would happen if there is a warning released for YS imagine several million people
all trying to get away from the states surrounding YS all at once it would be a disaster in its own right
no official or politician is ever willingly going to trigger that.
the doom porn flick Supervolcano paints the picture nicely.

Actually my escape plan is west, not east. Due west to the coast then down the costal highway till i hit mid/southern CA then regroup, research and see where next. East for me would put me right in the path of all the ash.

Think it through - once you reach the coast, that costal highway will be clogged with traffic, a virtual parking lot, more likely than not. You would likely not get further than San Francisco. Due south will probably serve you no better. Better now than just ahead of the ash.

For us, we're right on the edge of the ash bed of the medium magnitude eruption. I imagine depending on the size of the blast, we could potentially ride it out where we are at even with some ash fall if we take precautions.

In the event that we had to leave, this is about the only major disaster where our plan is to head east to my husband's family rather than west toward mine.

The part that really screws everyone is the years of aftermath and those will be globally bad.
