I ran across this story not long ago, and blew it off as normal, but today i was surfing, doing my normal checking of sites, and one of them is the graph's for YS and quakes.

Here is the story:
www.dcclothesline.com...

I did not put much stock into it at all, the charts looked calm, but after about the 3rd chart, i scrolled down to see where they were set, and then i was a bit nervous.

So i am looking for input from the masses.

If you look at the bottom of the charts, you will see many are set to 1000mv which i do not remember any of the charts ever being set this high, even back when we had the big swarm, they were set from 100mv to 400mv.
Is there more to this story than doom porn? Could they actually be right for a change?
I normally would ignore it, but with the charts set so high it seems to me like they are trying to make it look as normal as they can and not panic anyone. If you dont pay attention to where they have it set, a quake on a 100mv can look just like one on a 1000mv but have huge realistic differences.

For those that dont have the link handy,
www.seis.utah.edu...
all the charts.

I have no knowledge on this stuff so I can't comment.
My question is where is the person who claims this...did he get the hell out of the area? If those in the know start not showing up for work then yea they're probably onto something.

The person that claimed it is one of the YS workers, not sure where his location is right now.
There is a video some where, let me see if i can dig it up.

cant get it to play in the thread, but cluck the link and it will open.

As close as i am, we are pretty much screwed if a big one erupts. Unless 12 hrs notice, the chance of us getting out from under the bulk of the ash is slim to none.
But i still like to keep a eye on it, at least i could climb up on the roof with a 12 pack and watch the show.
If i'm going anyway, might as well enjoy it.

Don't know if I trust that link or story. First, the author of article must have not spoken to the said park worker, as he/she spelled the name wrong.

There is another article that mentions a Dr. Heasler(pronounced Hessler) but no mention of these sort of doom porn predictions.

Here's an article from 2013:

Ok I've been clucking at the link for 3 minutes now and it still hasn't opened. However I did freak the cat out. Well I guess I'll try GOGGLE and see if i can stare the search engine open.

Yikes. The amount of people that would be covered with is scary to think about!

Yes that would be a nice way to go I suppose but I hope for everyone's sake-if it does erupt-that there is ample warning.

Best Wishes

Doesn't ATS have a resident semi-professional YS/volcano watcher? I would imagine if there were anything to know, that person would have been on it.

I wouldn't be overly concerned. The article seems to be based on a misquote/misinterpretation of a quote. I can't find anything where Hank Heasler predicts an eruption in 2 weeks.

There is an article from 2 days ago where he said there wouldn't be anything in the foreseeable future and defined foreseeable as a couple weeks.

Researchers like Hank who study both seismic and volcanic activity here at Yellowstone say they are fairly certain that there will be no type of volcanic eruption here in the foreseeable future. But then we asked Hank to define "foreseeable future".

"Now what do we mean by foreseeable future? I would say, you know a couple of weeks, and that's what I would say with certainty."

www.ksfy.com...

That's the same interview from the video, I would like to see the entire interview it sounded like he started to say something else and they cut the video.

To me, he is saying they can't reliably predict what is going to happen further than a couple weeks out not it's going to erupt in a couple weeks.

There's also the fact that even if it erupts there's no guarantee that it will be a super eruption. The most recent eruption was 3300 years ago and it was not a super eruption.

If the OP is worried, he should stock up on respirators and extra air filters for his car. Better yet, get the hell east, and soon!

the ranger only said his idea of the "foreseeable future" is two weeks.
which in a place as active as Yellowstone is fair comment i think.
what he absolutely did not say is the park is anywhere close to an eruption.

I agree with most, i first blew it off as a newby freaking out over nothing,
then watched the video and was more confused than anything,
then a few days later the article showed up, and i was making my weekly rounds and saw the change in the MV on the graph's and stopped to do a double take.
Almost all of them are kicked up to 1000mv which i cant say i have ever seen them do before,
The higher the MV the calmer it looks.
Then i figured i would drop a thread here to let a few of the old original YS watchers weigh in and see what they think and get a general idea of what others are thinking and seeing.
I was a part of the original YS thread, but it grew and started a 2nd thread and i was without net for a while, It was nice back then because we had the geologist on the ground there in YS chatting with us on the thread, got first hand info, most of the ones that stated have a very good knowledge of YS now.

If it were not for the unusual change in the MV on the charts, i would blow it off totally, but beings i have never seen them put it that high, it makes one wonder just why they suddenly changed it after years and years of being much lower, that combined with the video and story, makes a person wonder.

actually i have a case of N-95 masks and respirators and a few air filters as well as a dozen panty hose stocked up already, in the middle of a crisis of any kind, is not the time to be trying to order protection. Prices will sky rocket.
I got the masks for around $20 on ebay a year or so ago, just to cheap to pass up, and i can always use them when painting cars/bikes if i dont have fresh filters for the respirators. One of the many odd ball things i have stock piled.
begining of winter, i orderd a case of 100 disposable lighters. Probably will never need them in my life time, but if the need should arise, starting a fire will be no problem.
I know most of what i have spent over the years will be a waste of money, and if we are lucky never needed, but i sleep better knowing that its all there, i dont have to explain to the kids why we dont have this or that, or why there is no food, or heat, or how come we cant build a fire and keep warm.

Actually my escape plan is west, not east. Due west to the coast then down the costal highway till i hit mid/southern CA then regroup, research and see where next. East for me would put me right in the path of all the ash.

I have a book from the 80s called The Earthquake Generation. Talks about a volcano (I think Krakatoa) that sounded like a gunshot heard up to 2000 miles away.

When Yosemite blows, you'll know.

YS = Yosemite, right?

Finally, some doom porn.

I really don't want it to happen but kind of want the doom porn to happen.

I know, I am a little crazy.

A volcano can erupt there without it being a super volcano. I'm not worried that the big one will happen. Everyone should be prepared for at least two weeks and if you can afford it, a couple of months.

I think the real story is Intellehub posting fabricated doom porn stories to get clicks, which in my opinion is all that this is.

OP, you could contact Dr. Henry Heasler through Montana State and find out.

If he had actually announced this, I'd think you could not turn to any news source without it being among the top headlines.

Intellehub the source.

Looks like the founder of Intellehub is who posted the article without a single source linked.

Yellowstone.

Bear in mind, Michio Kaku makes a living out of doom porn.

The scarier the better.

The other thing that occurs to me is this:

Let's take it at face value. If YS blows tomorrow, what is anyone going to do about it? There is no way to predict it just like there is no way to predict any other volcano with any real certainty. Less because of the sheer magnitude of YS. So what do the experts do? How do you evacuate an area that large and where do you put everyone? You can't do that in the timeframe any real warning would give us, so would it be worth actually warning anyone? Would the panic be worse than just letting it happen and then trying to tell people how to attempt to ride it out?
