No, a theory is a hypothesis, a hypothesis is basically a guess.

Colloquially, you are correct. However, we're talking about science in this context. A hypothesis and a theory are two different things in science.

Lol, evolution is not a fact. LOL!

Sure it is. It is an observable phenomenon, just like gravity. And, like gravity, it has a theory that attempts to explain the observations surrounding the phenomenon. There's the phenomenon of gravity, and there's a theory of gravity which seeks to explain it; there's the phenomenon of evolution, and there's the theory of evolution which seeks to explain it. See how that works?

You people are really silly.

It may seem that way if you don't have a grasp of the basics of science and how it works.

But you can defy gravity tho. You can't compare gravity to evolution. There is no gravity in space and that's not a theory.

There absolutely is gravity in space, it's just so weak as to be negligible because the gravitational attraction between two objects is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. I know this may come as a shock to you, but even going from sea level to the top of a mountain produces a measurable change in gravitational attraction. Maybe you haven't thought about this, but if there were no gravity in space, how is the moon staying in orbit around the Earth? How are the planets staying in orbit around the Sun?

Hopefully you're at least starting to understand that there's an observable phenomenon of evolution (like there is of gravity) -- the "fact" of evolution, if you want to use that word -- and there's a theory of evolution that explains the evidence around that phenomenon (like there is of gravity). So, hopefully understanding that point, can you now explain what the difference is between the phenomena of gravity and evolution, or the theories of gravity and evolution?

Look, if you believe you came from a fish or an ape, that's you and your belief.

The theory of evolution doesn't claim that we came from fish or apes. Again, it would be useful if you familiarized yourself with the theory before you made these kinds of comments.

I know my origins, and just so happens the source of my information is proven, which that is non of your business.

That hardly seems in the spirit of ATS... "Deny Ignorance". If you have "proven" information and aren't sharing it, you're promoting ignorance. Share your information. Let it stand or fall under scrutiny.

The people who control the world don't believe in evolution.

In your conspiracy model, are the people who control the world responsible for GMOs? If so, then they obviously believe in evolution.

Now, I'm done debating for now I would appreciate it if you not reply. Thank you have a nice day.

This isn't really a debate, more of a discussion. If you'd like to debate the issue, I'd be happy to take this to the debate forum.

Your post is just full of right wing talking points on why science is "bad", but all of those points are strawmans because they don't illuminate the real way science is studied and carried out. Most anti-science propaganda can be dismantled when you realize that it ISN'T just the American government financing science. It is MANY governments and international groups that fund it. Colleges and universities will also use their own resources to fund science. There are many competing ideologies and viewpoints in all those groups and DESPITE this, science is still coming to a consensus in things like Climate Change and Evolution.

The right wing talking points are about the government, not science. The government is less efficient at every project it undertakes. No matter what the government is doing, it is wasting money and resources doing it.

The vast majority of governments and NGOs are collectivist/progressive/socialistic, because that is where their money comes from. The bulk of the scientific research selected by them supports socialistic ideals, either directly with more-government-is-the-only-solution propaganda, like global warming, or by association with breakthroughs made by all science, science which the socialists have made impossible to do without governmental or NGO approval.

Central planning and 2 world wars sucked so much wealth out of the normal man's pocket that the only resource left for science funding is the central planners.

Almost every invention we use today was invented between 1800 and 1920. All of those inventions came from individuals. The rate of invention has dramatically slowed since the collectivist takeover in the early 20th century.
Science has become an employment program for college graduates, who need a job and so will always side with the socialists.

In the nearly free market system that created from nothing: air craft, steel self propelled ships, radio, genetics, microbiology, refrigeration, telephone, electric power and appliances, science was done by anyone who had an insight.

Today science is only done in captivity.

Fair enough lol, but I care about educating the uninformed. It isn't right to laugh at the ignorant, but instead show them the error of their thinking through reason and logic.
Oh, I agree and I spend a lot more time here in seeking out the teachable moments than in shooting off my mouth. But sometimes I just have to sit back and watch the parade bumble through. You know, in the words of the Prophet:

Don't step in that, Wilbur...

Again this is BS. The government can give money to scientific projects and that may cause those scientific fields of study to get more breakthroughs, but that doesn't mean that science is being hindered from going in directions the governments don't like. Science gets funding through more sources than just the government. Like I said, right wing science denialist talking points.

What? Is this a serious statement? Personal computer development has shot invention work through the roof.

You clearly don't study much science.

People who believe in evolution are the type of people who don't want to honor God for his wisdom, his power and his Supreme intelligent. So you go make up a bunch of words and call it facts. The ancients already knew the earth was round and the universe had planets and revolved around the sun, and these are the same people who still trying to figure out how they knew, but yet scientists thought the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth. It's seems every time they find something out that is new to THEM, they modify their so-called knowledge. But evolution is such a big lie, they are in to deep to modify it, because the only modification would to be giving God his glory and that's something nature didn't put in you. God is the most intelligent and most powerful man ever to exist and the truth hurts you who oppose it.

Wrong. People who believe in evolution accept the scientific evidence behind it. It has NOTHING to do with god. This is a false belief that you have been taught, either by your media or your poor education. Evolution is a slam dunk fact. Sorry you don't like it, but science wins over religion because religion is 100% based on faith while science is 100% based on fact. Scientists never thought the world was flat. I'd love to see your evidence for this. That was a reliigious view, NOT one based on science. It's hilarious how you folks always try to paint people that accept science as god haters when your religion has absolutely zero proof behind. The evidence behind evolution is massive in comparison. Open your eyes, seriously.

It's kind of funny when people have no argument whatsoever against the evidence so they resort to name calling and attacking science. OMG it was wrong a few times and updated. OMG what about the bible that makes hundreds of demonstrably false claims? Oh, I get it. You believe it, so it's automatically true and science is false. LMAO!

65% of the population accepts evolution?
Well that explains how they pushed thru the federal reserve act and the Patriot Act and all the other laws that makes Americans look foolish for allowing, according to evolution you all came from apes or fish or whatever animal the theory claims you came from.

LMAO! So you think belief in evolution caused the patriot act, rather than a bunch of fundamentalist nutjobs? Sorry, religion causes way more problems in the world than the scientific fact of evolution.

When it's all said and done it's called, the THEORY of evolution. It's a theory, it's not real. Its just an advanced story of santa claus or the tooth fairy, now if you want to put your belief in a theory, that's on you.

Keep on digging yourself deeper. THIS is the problem, right here in this post. People that are so obsessed with hating evolution and science they make up blatant lies, and don't even know the very basics of what a scientific theory is or what it means. LMAO at "it's not real". No, it's your knowledge of science that isn't real. Scientific theories are based on FACT. Sorry, you fail again. Try actually learning about something before dishonestly attacking it. K, thanks!

There is no gravity in space and that's not a theory.

So the moon just magically floats there and the planets magically keep revolving around the sun? Wow. I don't think I'll be able to find a quote to top the ignorance in this one but I'll try.
