Once we die fear as an emotion is no longer required. Fear is a biological survival response that is only useful in this earthly life.

Regarding Jesus, He did not say that we all go to Heaven happy ever after. In the Bible it tells us that our souls are held in a place until the Resurrection of all the dead;

Daniel 12: "Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise[a] will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”

Revelation tell us exactly the same thing. The former earth will pass away and a new earth will be created. Jesus says that there will be no need for marriage even because we "will be like the angels".

Jesus says that He would have told us so if it was not the case. Also, it appears there is a lake of fire of eternal torment for the Beast, False Prophet and that those who have the Mark of The Beast will be weeping and wailing and gnashing teeth outside Zion. A Book of Life is mentioned, too, where all those who are written in it will rise to everlasting life.

Sheol (Hades) is the world of the dead. Gehenna is a metaphor for the rubbish pit/heap. Heaven is God's domain. Humans don't go there. Revelation says that God will come and dwell with people in the new earth.

This is actual Christian doctrine. I don't know where the very common misunderstanding of going to Heaven comes from, but Jesus never spoke of us residing there.

Some interesting observations, though, Jesus said to one of the people crucified with Him "Today you will join me in Paradise". To others He said that it is a blinking of an eye for us before we are awakened. To others He said "I have gone to prepare a place".

Not one word of the Bible was written by anyone who witnessed Jesus saying anything. You may as well be quoting Frodo.

Let's see. No you don't understand it.

I was merely reciting some of the statements made by Jesus about what He understood to happen after death and what the OT Prophet Daniel had to say.

He did not say all those things when on the Cross, silly! Yes, people did talk while being crucified and still do (in Syria). It takes a long time to die with this style of execution, sometimes more than 24 hours. That is why it was used because it is so long winded and painful a torment.

I notice how you say "Jeez" as an exclamation in your post. That is slang for "Jesus". Obviously for it to be coming from you on an unconscious level means that somewhere in your psyche you are not as irreverent as your post here.

Make up your mind! Who is being silly.

This is the problem with these dogmatic beliefs.

You say one thing and then completely go in the opposite direction.

Your religious beliefs have no more value (and no less) than anyone elses here and yet you do believe that yours are the right ones and everyone else is wrong.

Because of a real life event that I know is real, I have an insight into death that I find comforting. I know with absolute certainty that there is life after death, not many have this.

Many people have died, and then come back several hours after being pronounced dead. One woman I read about raised up off the operating table and scared the hell out of the guys about to perform her autopsy.

This dude came back with a whole new body made of astral particles, just like Jesus FTW!

He was not DEAD. If he had been DEAD, he would not now be alive. He may have been clinically dead and had a near-death experience. I suggest that you discuss this with your physician who can explain the difference to you.

As the OP said, your response "begs the question."
But it may be as good as any answer.
Personally, I'm kinda old, but I'm tempted toward changing religions to that one with a few dozen virgins waiting.

For those seriously interested in this dilemma, I suggest that they dig heavily into the reports from those that have explored to some depth the literature about the use of '___'. It is not a recreational substance and has allowed some experiencers to vastly extend their concepts of what life, death and other factors in the Universe have in store. (I'm not a user of it.)

The same thing that happens when you blow out a candle or turn off a light switch.

The processes your body has been creating for your entire life stop, the light goes out, and that's it.

Realising this has helped me appreciate life more than any hopeful fairytale ever could.
