Why not just call it terrorism?

Assigning something else to it gives it power. It provides those who commit it a "cause".

No one called the IRA Radical Catholicists. We just called them terrorists.

Same with all this Charlie Hebdo stuff. A couple of idiots shot up a magazine that posted "blasphemous" pictures.

What happened? More people posted similar pictures.

The support for the satire has been a recruitment drive for them because they can point and say to weak minded individuals who they may seek to radicalise "see, look at all these people posting blasphemous images - they do hate the religion". Unwittingly (or dim wittedly, depending on how you see it) a load of people just aided their cause.

So, give it a simple label. Terrorism. Nothing else needs to be said. That or starve them the oxygen of publicity completely.

That's the most sensible explanation!

The problem with it though is it doesn't fit into a particular agenda.

The "starve them of oxygen of publicity" is the perfect example of another agenda. FEAR! But yes! How things would change if we didn't give attention whores the attention they so desire?

The whole point behind the labels "radicals" and "extremists" are to separate from a mainstream group.

It can be from Islam, or from any group. Those that do things the majority of a group want to distance themselves from.

Fundamentalist is another word often used for that.

For example, the FLDS which practices the Mormon faith in a way that mainstream Mormons do not.

There are extremists in every group, even here on ATS.

In Islam it is much more difficult to use words to detach the evil minority from the mainstream majority when they use scripture and doctrine from Islam to justify their acts of evil.

Bottom line is this complex issue is not going to be resolved by calling it something different. It is a problem that is going to continue to grow until people believe that all of Islam is the problem, and Islam chooses to deal with it internally. They have to clean out the evil from within.

imo

The IRA is still to this day one of the largest smugglers of illegal guns into the US they all end up in the hands of the elite among street gangs for their drug running. Yet, silence.

Did the Vatican back them?

Hell my ancestry is part Irish, and I don't identify myself with the IRA.

Dunno why muslims take offense.

They're also not just "leftist"...

I don't subscribe to the Left...
But I know those this exist & are deserving of a mention!

As for Radical Islam... I'd say Radical Muslims...
Because they are Muslims...
But Islam has nothing to do with what these people are doing...

Personal responsibility still exists if the person is a Muslim people.
Understand that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Further more, I have no contradictory beliefs or values!

I know how much women mean to me, personally...

That... Is a man made thing...

Hey look, a war on women, & there you were just saying its a myth!!!

Team Obama is saying here there are no Islamic radicals, that makes you as a member of the Islamic faith not out murdering people the same as those that are. How do you not get enraged at this Leftist garbage they are throwing out pandering to terrorists with the excuse they don't want to offend them?

There were an estimated 83,425 forcible rapes reported to law enforcement in 2011.

Source.

The total number of gang homicides reported by respondents in the NYGS sample averaged nearly 2,000 annually from 2007 to 2012. During roughly the same time period (2007 to 2011), the FBI estimated, on average, more than 15,500 homicides across the United States

So there's Gang Culture...

But Rape Culture is a myth!?!

Clearly there is...
And that's two of the "myths" crossed off the little partisan list.

I think the term "radical Islam" is tautological. The terrorist view of Islam is not "warped" by any means, rather the doctrine teaches Muslims to do what the "radicals" are doing. I am quite annoyed by the fact that so many are convinced Islam is a religion of peace, because this is simply inaccurate. It specifically calls believers to violence, as opposed simply reporting on violence that has taken place in the past. It is not like many of the stories in the Bible, in which it is claimed that God wanted so and so to be killed, followed by a historical account of the acts...The Quran has many instances calling for believers, modern believers or anyone following the doctrine, to rise up against non-Muslims. There is no misinterpreting the text because it is so clear. I always like to compared Islam to Christianity because there are always those who wish to throw the latter into the argument, noting the atrocities committed in the name of Christianity.

The difference between these two religions is in the doctrine itself. Christians who go out killing other people are not justified by their religion, because their religion does not teach this. They are acting outside of the doctrine. Muslims on the other hand, who go out killing others, are justified by their religious doctrine. The former religion calls for peace and loving one's neighbor, while the latter calls for the slaying of non-believers in multiple portions of the Quran. Therefore Muslims can justify the murder of non-believers, and even believers, through their religious teachings, and thus they think they are doing the right thing. So the problem is NOT the people, but the religion itself. If their religion did not justify these acts, then these people would not be committing them. It is that simple. They are only doing it because their religion tells them to. That is why they're fanatical.

This type of thing has occurred throughout history, but often times where other religions are concerned the doctrine was either misinterpreted, or ignored, and the people thought themselves religiously justified. Thinking oneself religiously justified and actually being religiously justified is a matter of doctrine. It is the fault of the religion when it calls one to violence, and it is the fault of the people committing the violence when the religion does not advocate such violence. And how we make the determination is by reading the various doctrines, and determining whether the violence contained within is presented as a historical account, or is presented as a call to anyone reading the text. If the latter, the doctrine should not be given religious protection within any modern nation like the US. Why? Because it goes from being a religion to being a terrorist doctrine, because it is calling for the slaying of other people simply because they practice a different religion. Anyone who subscribes to a terrorist doctrine holds terrorist beliefs. I am using the word terrorist because anyone who follows a doctrine that calls for the killing of those practicing another religion IS a terrorist once they carry out such an act. If someone is persecuted because of their religion, those doing the persecuting are terrorists. Those "good" Muslims who have not killed anyone truly are not "good" Muslims by the doctrine of the Quran. They are "bad" Muslims. If someone started a group in the US that advocated the killing of those who were not a part of the group, the government would be all over them, even if they had not carried out such killings. Why? Because freedom of speech or freedom of religion does not protect threats of violence. Why does one think ISIS can recruit so easily? Because what they say regarding Jihad is completely justifiable through the Quran.

Where is the Lefts outrage?
You give them too much credit, just by still waiting continuously for it to happen...
I know you don't want to be a Lefty deep down, but just can't cross over until they buck their ideas up...

So you should join me in the Acceptance Stage!

We might end up agreeing on a few things.

So you accept that you are lumped into the same group as the terrorists because of Islam when a Leftwing political group openly endorses it but nobody else is allowed to say all Muslims are terrorists?

Amazing.

The "All muslims are terrorists" moniker is only taboo if you are not on the Left. Team Obama has let the cat out of the bag. The Left can use racism but nobody else can. The Left can promote Obamacare when every one of them that voted for it are exempt. Hypocrisy knows no bounds with Team Obama at the helm.

No radicals in Islam.....all the bloodshed is normal, go about your business.

Calling it radical Islam does shed light on the 'rape culture'.

Because that is the culture of RADICAL ISLAMISTS.
