Breaking: West Jet WA2154 is squawking 7500 - possible Hijack situation...

Hey ATS,

This might be interesting, West Jet WA2154 is squawking code 7500 for possible hijacking. There isn't much about it for now, will update as information comes in. The plane is a Boeing 737 flying from Mexico to Puerto Vallarta.

Track it on FlightRadar:
www.flightradar24.com...

So yeah... 2015 is starting in a very brutal way. Hopefully everyone lands safely.

Update 6:46PM: The planes transponder has now indicated "7500" a total of 3 times. The last being 90 secs ago. 7500 means (HIJACK)

Update 6:50PM: Airplane now disappeared from radar. Switched off transponder? #WA2154

Update 6:55PM: Apparently plane has landed... Waiting for more information

Update 7:00PM: Awkward. @Mosheh: Pentagon official tells @CBSDavidMartin that it appears the West Jet pilot #WA2154 accidentally triggered the hijack alarm

Do you know if it landed yet? Who's reporting three people in the cockpit?

Update: apparently it did land, maybe its a technical glitch?

That seems to settle it then, thanks.

Can anyone tell me why there are so many planes in the air with no call sign? (on Flightradar24.com)

Because they don't have ADS-b transponders.

What's the process of squawking a code? Just an emergency button or do they have to actually type 7-5-0-0?
