New Theory: We Live In The Past of a Parallel Universe

A two branched time's arrow and increasing entropy, gravity, and cosmic inflation is part of the discussion of this theory and article discussion. The prospect of this being 'testable' and a provable theory is amazing to me. The barriers between the two branches ... that's what I'd like to know about. Although the model is crude, and does not incorporate either quantum mechanics or general relativity, its potential implications are vast. If it holds true for our actual universe, then the big bang could no longer be considered a cosmic beginning but rather only a phase in an effectively timeless and eternal universe. More prosaically, a two-branched arrow of time would lead to curious incongruities for observers on opposite sides. “This two-futures situation would exhibit a single, chaotic past in both directions, meaning that there would be essentially two universes, one on either side of this central state,” Barbour says. “If they were complicated enough, both sides could sustain observers who would perceive time going in opposite directions. Any intelligent beings there would define their arrow of time as moving away from this central state. They would think we now live in their deepest past.”

What’s more, Barbour says, if gravitation does prove to be fundamental to the arrow of time, this could sooner or later generate testable predictions and potentially lead to a less “ad hoc” explanation than inflation for the history and structure of our observable universe.

This is not the first rigorous two-futures solution for time’s arrow. Most notably, California Institute of Technology cosmologist Sean Carroll and a graduate student, Jennifer Chen, produced their own branching model in 2004, one that sought to explain the low-entropy origin of time’s arrow in the context of cosmic inflation and the creation of baby universes. They attribute the arrow of time’s emergence in their model not so much to entropy being very low in the past but rather to entropy being so much higher in both futures, increased by the inflation-driven creation of baby universes.

But seriously, I sometimes wonder if entropy is what defines time, rather than time being the cause of entropy.

We live in a universe where entropy increases; therefore we experience time moving "forward" with that increase in entropy. But if there was a universe where entropy decreased over time, then time moving "forward" in that universe would actually seem backward to us.

...but it would not be time defining what entropy does, but rather entropy defining how time is perceived. Maybe time is a by-product of entropy, not the other way around.

I wonder how this squares with Barbour's earlier work, in which he theorized — to his own satisfaction at least — that time does not exist?

Would a two branched time arrow with entropy fit into the suggestion that time is an illusion? I Kinda think it could. Or more like - time is a mirage. That might fit better.

I often theorized seeing the universe is speeding up instead of slowing down could mean that we are not actually moving forward but moving in reverse. If you can get your head around that. Sure, we walk forward, talk forward but in the grand scheme of things we are shooting towards the beginning, not the end.

Einstein theorized that and he may be correct. Then we'll get into simulation theory which fits nicely into that equation

It took me a few reads to wrap my head around it.
I want to know about barriers between the two branch time arrows.
Would it exist and if so, what would they be and what could penetrate it.
We won't know in our lifetime of course, but it's tickling my brain.
Also - the entropy makes sense to me.

The major world religions state that is what is happening. Everything is actually present to God and in the next dimension everything in this dimension is happening all at once to them there (and we are there too but don't realize it here). At this time, it seems we are stick 'in time' but in actuality we are outside of time and just experiencing something inside of time while we are outside it. We are 'really' elsewhere ... or should I say, we are really somewhere else in time?

Our knowledge of the Universe is a small window
I do not agree with entropy
In the movement of the heavens there are wheels within wheels
Patterns within patterns
I think we jump to conclusions to think it ... the Universe ... will become a dark sea of space
with stars stretched out at infinite distances

For one thing such a notion belies the inter connectedness of all things
Which is also an inter dependency ...

A greater Intelligence than our own "Worms eye view" Created it ... started it off ...
We each are given an essence of this Intelligence as souls ... in my opinion

So not so much a Big Bang but a blossoming of something wonderful

There was one theorist who gave the analogy that likened time to a fully-developed, yet static, landscape -- and what we perceive as the passage of time is simply us moving through and experiencing that landscape.

So using that analogy, time is all "happening" at the same time -- or at least everything that has happened in the past and will happen in the future is already written upon that landscape through which we are moving.

Believing in barriers between worlds opens the door for multiple levels of intrusion and minipulation.

It really just depends on what direction one wants to look at right now.

Just when you get one angle figured out there are many more.

In that line of reasoning no one is wrong but everyone is able to argue their truth with the inflection of being correct.

while i have reasoned time does not exist, and rely on the simple proof that it can be manipulated while remaining static, this parallel universe stuff does not compute.

Time is measuring the movement of the heavens
Yet what causes the heavens to move is Eternal

How will we all feel if it turns out that we are in a system that is in control of other systems that are created through our imagery and actions.

Meaning that every video game created is the outline of an actual world where that energy gets written into physical matter. This thought ties in directly with recent events like the interview and cartoons.

It has been pointed too being correct by religious text and even those egyptian scrolls depicting the afterlife were created under the assumption that this was the case.

If what i say is true then guess who is stopping the whole thing from being a peaceful existance? We and our imaginations are.

there we go....
if gravity is essential to Time then Entropy will be increased where denser gravity exists... like light being bent around a Dense Gravity place like a Galaxy or Black Hole

entropy, light, time, gravity -> all are subject to being altered... I just wonder what a testable prediction might be
I cannot think of one right now but it seems certain that gravity, entropy, time, electro-magnetic forces are not uniform in the universe and those displacements should make the cosmic landscape look like a surreal place instead of a tranquil - horizon-2-horizon sandy beach in flat-land

Sooooo, is that "spinning" generating the "time" ?
