As far as the "coal tar" etc... the chemical extraction and manufacturing of ANYTHING sounds horrible... let alone a substance we eat... and I think
we've been too trusting of chemistry as a society, in general, when it comes to what bleeds into the environment through use and manufacturing and
the resultant possibly toxic mixes... but, back to vitamins, the end product/purity is what matters... not really from what the components are
extracted from (exceptions like vit E aside)!
And that 'coal tar' story sounds like Ester-C... not L-ascorbic acid.
Forgive me... I have ties to nutritionists who are frustrated at the amount of misinformation in that subject and it rubbed off on me, I guess...
however inexact I am regarding it.
