I am a 59 yo white woman with no criminal record and now find myself afraid of the police. When I was a child I was told if I ever had a problem to find a police officer and he would help me and I have carried that mindset with me all these years. However today my 22yo white law abiding son told me he had broken his drivers permit and was concerned in case he was pulled over. I felt compelled to tell him to be careful around the police because they will kill you.

I'm a 35 year old mutt and typically give them a hard time or the silent treatment. Can't help it, just happens. You know, authority and control issues. Rarely ever ends well....chopping off the nose to spite my face I guess. *shrugs*

I'm a 32yr old white male and im afraid of the poh-leece too.
An officer that lives at the end of the street yet works in another town caught me trying to pass through the path in the woods directly beside his privacy fence (it saves me an entire half of a mile in walking distance to the corner store). He came out and told me..

..that drug dealers pass through there and he doesn't like it, it's his property. At that point I sincerely apologized, acted bitch, and informed him I lived 5 houses down from him, and that i was just going to the store. He told me he found a dead body back there 2 years ago from the nearby drug-infested predominantly black ghetto apartment complex, which the path in question leads to. I don't try to take the path anymore.

Although, I had a friend that lived in that complex, like the only white guy almost, and yet the other tenants didn't bother him or me whenever I passed through.

gangster blacks = 1
police = 0

I'm afraid of the police when I am going seventy MPH down the highway and see one. That rarely happens with me anymore, I worry more about going too slow and getting a ticket when it is icy on the highway now.

Around here the cops spend most of their time looking for people who are breaking the law. Well, they do spend quite a bit of time drinking coffee and BSing with people too. If you do not do something wrong, your chances greatly increase at not being troubled by the cops. Now once in a while they do make mistakes and go to the wrong house or mistake you for someone who did something wrong. Just be civil and there usually isn't a problem.

I knew a guy who got slammed over the hood of his car because his car looked like someone who had just done a crime. It didn't take the cops long to check out what he said, he was friends with the Negaunee cops and would not do that kind of thing as the guy they were looking for did. He kept his cool and things got straightened out. Mistakes are made sometimes, they mistook him for someone who had been seen in the area that had robbed a gas station.

Don't try to argue or get away and things work out. He was not hurt when he hit the hood but if he would have resisted it could have been a lot worse.

Cops around here aren't bad, but you don't want to piss them off or mouth off to them. Treat them with respect, they usually treat you the same way unless they know you have been in trouble.

The threat is real. The fear isn't.
Defining moments don't come that often. Prepare to seize that moment when it arrives.

To put it briefly, act like a French guy during the Nazi Occupation during WWII.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but that's an issue that can be easily remedied. Though I'm not sure if it's legal or not to drive with a "broken" permit (was it snapped in half? Was it a temp paper permit presented to him after he passed to be used until his "card" arrived in the mail?) I'm sure if you called the DMV or went down there they could print out a new slip or issue a temp paper permit until a replacement arrives.

Very true. They do know they'll have to be held to account in some fashion in court while prosecuting the crime you committed, so if you don't act stupid by resisting, talking #, or trying to get away, you'll be treated fairly by the cop (more or less) and won't get additional charges. Some will even let you go with a warning sometimes, lol.

Cops are #; let's just go ahead and get the # talking started. This # really pisses me off and I'm tired of it. It's like law enforcement takes a big fat # on you nowadays, especially if you look like you're below 40yrs of age. They'll make you feel like a dip#. It's not about color, it's your age dang it. They go after young men and old women. Does anyone give a #? This # is getting old. I'd say more but I have to go take a # so I'm getting off of this # for right now because it feels like it's going to weigh a #.

I guess I'm slightly confused...we're you correct in stating my 22 yo has a drivers permit...im perplexed because most young adults get there permits at 16...
But I'm feeling you...im ex military, law abiding, settled in my community and I'm still frightened of the police ....correction I'm not frightened of them but frightened of what they may do to me...

Good for you, enjoy living in fear.

Im a 41 year old white male without any police record. I'm more worried about a criminal killing me or maybe the crazy homeless drug user down the street breaking in or the cowardly drunk driver that races around this neighborhood or the drunk mummers that are about to be incoming. That might be because I dont act like an idiot or do anything close to breaking the law but who knows.

Anyway the same 3 posters will start another 30 threads on the police state in America now . Ignoring the fact that corruption is a human trait and not a profession based issue.

Stop being "afrsid", it's not healthy!

Don't live your life in fear. And your 22yo is a big boy now that is responsable for his actions. If he's scared, he can fix his situation with ease.

Can't coddle them kids forever!

You should be afraid.

Afraid enough to get involved in local politics.
