Letters home from French jihadists to their parents have revealed the misery, boredom and fear suffered by Islamist recruits as the gloss fades from their big adventure.

In a series of letters seen by Le Figaro newspaper, some of the 376 French fighting in Syria have begged for advice on how to return. Others have complained that, rather than participating in a noble battle, they have been acting as jihadists' lackeys.

One complained that he wanted to go home because he was missing the comforts of life in France. "I'm fed up. My iPod doesn't work anymore here. I have to come back."

Boo freaking hoo. You signed up to live in squalor with a bunch of murderers. You get to stay. None of these people should ever be allowed to return.

I don't get what these people expected. I'm also sort of amazed iPods are allowed.

They made their bed so to speak . Another report i read says the wanna be murderer wants to come home as he cant give up smoking also another because he had to clean toilets and wasn't being paid enough . Like i said ,make your bed now lie in it .

Same as what most who stupidly sign up to join any army .. they think it will be a big glorius adventure and theyll change the world .. then they get there and learn there is no glory in war .. no winners and none of the luxuries of home ..

As to letting them return home .. with luck france will reinstate the guillotine for them .. let them see how a proper beheading is done when they return after fighting with IS ...

I am a BRIT living in France and My wife and son are French... I have been here for 25 years and love France and the whole culture...

The French have become civilized since the end of the Death sentence back in 1981 mate...

Just chuck them in an overcrowded prison and let the rest of the inmates do the job...

How is this a french bashing thread? it was just simple examples of people who go to fight with IS and completely regret it. Look at Britain, they are taking back people who went and fought with IS so they can study their "mentality." I know alot of people are mad at the western world and rightfully so, but to join IS is and agree with what they are doing is complete insanity. My opinion is if you went there to fight with them you should be executed. they bitch about ipods not working? what kind of holy war are you getting yourself into if your love for your ipod is more than your belief into your religion? So I say its time to pay the piper for your actions.

Just because these guys want back into France, why should they be let in? If their Ipods had continued to work and they weren't cleaning toilets, they would have been more than happy to kill people or else they wouldn't have signed up. So they miss their easier life with its amenities in France but they still want to kill people? Making them stay, they may become useful to the terrorists. Letting them back in they are still potential killers. I say let them back, then end their potential for terrorism, one way or another. Prison or worse. These people Wanted to join and Kill. Sure, they were idiots thinking it would be the same standard of living and no hard life, but they still wanted to kill either other Muslims or "infidels". What use are they to anyone other than terrorists now? Propaganda? They made very bad choices. With bad intent.

I hate to say this but perhaps this information is the way to deal with these stupid kids who think that getting a gun in their hands and the chance to rape , steal, destroy ,all in the name of allah so they are not personally responsible, is a good thing when they are actually faced with reality.

Reality is that men like obama and cameron (and others) will get some financial or other reward by getting rid of Assad and they will use any idiot who is willing to sacrifice their own or other people's lives in order to get it. The secondary gain is that they are learning who is a potential danger to the societies in the West, where these people have brought themselves to live.

Most politicians don't see the public as anything other than expendable morons and no one should ever forget that truth because we are not on their personal radar we are cannon fodder to serve them and their master, no matter what misery this costs people.

These kids must not be allowed to get away with having gone to murder, rape, destroy and steal. These are crimes and the knowledge they have been given in order to carry out such crimes makes them unsafe for our streets. They need a good dose of punishment and reconditioning in order to get these values into perspective. I doubt you will ever change much of this religion's war mongering and demand for converts or death, but it is past time to calm these immans and recruiters out of the picture. Every imman needs to be monitored simply because we can't have poison preached in peaceful and worthwhile societies. If we fight this medieval nonsense, our attention is turned from the things within our countries that need leglislation and change - no where is perfect but some countries offer a better place to live than others - simples. Those who come from islamic countries and cannot face the difference between non islamic and islamic societies should settle themselves where they are comfortable and not a menace - many muslims over generations have come, settled within western societies and adapted to the freedom, we have them in our family so its not an impossible task, however Saudi immans and extreme dogmatics should be extracted like bad teeth when they think they can step over the law of the land in the name of allah.

Welp. I feel bad for anyone dumb enough to think that being a terrorist would be fun. Like, in a normal, reasonably smart-person's mind, one would immediately see that this was a terrible idea.
