Aldo's not much of a finisher. Not in the last few years.

Conor's not got a lot of history defending from guard.

Could be a Five Round decision of boredom.

Gut says explosive, nasty fight.

Holly Holm Vs Ronda Rousey. Boxing won.

James Toney went in expecting to loose. He needed the money.

A good boxer is very hard to take down. The Clinch started in boxing.

I would bet that a true boxer could do very well moving over to mma. Rousey, as Joe Rogan clamied, Is the best at take downs men or woman period. Dana White said she could kill Mayweather ect.

Rousey was not beat but destroyed by a female pure boxer.

This doesn't answer it, i'm afraid nothing will.

Edit: never saw how old this thread was!

The real answer I keep coming up with is a true world class boxer would never leave the golden goose to fight mma. Mayweather made 300 million for a fight. Conor makes 500k. It just doesn't make sense for a guy like tyson or toney to do this unless its a quick payday when they are bankrupt. The boxer wouldn't even train, just go in, get arm-bared and make your 500k.

Dana knows this.

Thats why he says stupid # about boxing all the time. He's trying to taunt ex broke champs that will get beat to legitimize mma and proclaim it the sweet science, when the truth is the boxer has lost before he steps in because it's for a buck not a career.

All the money aside, just for the sake of fighting alone I believe MMA is far superior. Mixed martial arts means boxing included.

Any mma practitioner worth their salt should know boxing is an extremely important thing to master.

All the while we are learning how to defend a take down and recognize/utilize jui jitzu technique.

Situations more similar to how an actual fight may play out. You need to be well versed in all fighting disciplines.

Floyd would be smashed in the cage, this should answer it all. Mma wins.

Rockhold new middleweight champion at 3mins 12 seconds of R4. Weidman gets comprehensively whooped for three rounds. Throws a wheel kick and gets grounded and pounded into TKO.

Buckling in for the big one now...

This is so sad. Jose got caught now McGregor is OMG.

But I guess it proves boxing beats mma.

It took Conor who's stand up is um okay? (mendes fight) to ko the chamo in 13 secs with a left cross.

Conor is the only MMA fighter that has done what every good boxer can do. Plant the hind foot and gain power moving back. If you come forward againt a boxer you will be dropped. We always have to learn angles and when you don't have the better position, give it up and re group.

IMAGINE #ING TYSON! Seriously.

I'm not really in the thread to argue that MMA or boxing is the better sport. It'd be like talking politics with nobody giving way.

Tyson was incredible. He was the guy as I was growing up. Not sure how he'd do with someone like JBJ? Probably Tyson, but how good would he be going forward if JBJ hit his lower legs with deadening kicks? Too tough to call without falling back on certainties.

Anyway...the post-fight press talk is finally on.

You can't match a boxer against an MMA fighter...

Its just not a fair fight... Tyson might be a different story...

but its still not a fair fight

Yeah a sport needs agreed rules.

A top boxer would beat a top MMA fighter if they only boxed. A top boxer would not have much of a chance with MMA rules.

It's like asking who's better? Usain Bolt or Mo Farah.

James Toney was the heavy weight champ, and he got slapped around a lot in the UFC by people that wouldn't go one round... hell, 20 seconds in a boxing ring with him

Boxing is a sport...

MMA is all out street fight with a few rules

You just can't mix the two

I agree except for your closing statement...

Put any UFC fighter in the ring with Floyd... and the out come is obvious...

No one can beat that guy in the ring at his weight

Its more "martial arts", not one discipline

even taekwondo is actually a sport... one discipline mainly...

and both are in the Olympics

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. It's a given that most people in the thread already know that.

Alright I guess its a sport... lol

Yet some people say golf isn't a sport...

In any case what im saying is that a boxer can't fight an MMA fighter in his ring... and Vice Versa

That's what I've been saying!

Then again, I'd still bet on Cain Velasquez over Tyson Fury in a boxing match lol

...as an exception.

We're lucky enough to have lived through Tyson's time when there were murderers in the HW division.

MMA is all out street fight with a few rules

You just can't mix the two

first if all how can you not "Mix the two" boxing is largely the striking system they train in for punches. it's a part of MMA. so the two blend very well.

MMA is not an all out street fight with a few rules. it's very, very different. it is a sport. not a combative. can you use "MMA" techniques in a street fight and can most, nearly all, MMA fighters and boxers street fight? probably. hell, there are untrained folks who a great at street fighting. the point is they are not the same and shouldn't be confused.

also give boxers a little more credit.

heres a question is MMA a hybrid sport system that's pretty much set in its recipe of styles that it incorporates? as i see it. MMA has evolved or distilled its self into mostly- Some rudimentary western boxing, rudimentary mauy thai, great BJJ or whatever submission style wrestling the practicioner has studied the longest. but it also appears to be semi dynamic in the sense that they are collectively recognizing the striking aspects punching wise have lagged in development and now folks are training in boxing a little more.

as for mayweather. he's good but not unbeatable. kick him in the legs a few times using some Mauy thai, his foot work gets sloppy, clinch, take a few hooks that might not do much without his footwork, pick his light butt up and toss him on the ground.....won't be easy but there are viable strategies to get around a counter offensive boxer.

also, from my recollection almost all martial arts are "mixed" in some way.

Okinawa te - southern Chinese kung fu mixed in with traditional Japanese karate. same thing with kenpo. kajukembo - mix of western boxing, japanese judo, jujitsu and karate, southern chinese jung fu, kali. silat- mix of chinese, indian, sumatran/Javanese indigenous arts. kali - mix of escrima and European fighting like boxing and Spanish weapon work, Persian and Indian weapon work, chinese weapon work, silat, japanese judo and jujitsu, western boxing. western boxing - several European sources with a bit of Philippine pangumut for foot work and much of it's modern guard. jeet kun do - western boxing, japanese jujitsu, kali, wing chun.

systema - dispite what they say they are mostly mixing sambo, jujitsu, western boxing and kali. krav maga - don't get me started on what a mutt of styles that is.

i would venture to say that nearly all martial arts are mixed one way or another.

Yeah, that was insane, mind bogglingly so. WTF. If I remember correcty ate a right while landing a perfect counter punch.

That was madness.

Soooooo

Mcgreggor Edgar

Can't say I'm sad the MW championship shifted. Freaking Weidman destroyed my hero. my favorite fighter before the spider was Rich Franklin lol.

Not a big rockhold fan either, granted he's crazy talented. I would love to see Machida come back and crane technique his a$$. Or even vitor with the spinning back heel of death.
