There's excitement and much hype brewing over the new Star Wars trailer but rhere's more news in the entertainment arena that shouldn't be missed. A sequel to the 1996 hit movie Independence Day.

A sequel to the 1996 Earth invasion hit blockbuster Independence Day has been confirmed by 20th Century Fox.

The movie, produced by Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser is scheduled to be released on June 24, 2016. Emmerich "is in negotiations to direct" the film, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. Jeff Goldblum is said to be in talks to make a return, but it's thought unlikely that Will Smith, who played a fighter pilot in the original, will appear in the sequel.

Independence Day is a kick-ass 1996 movie about aliens who invade Earth and make an unholy mess before the humans get their act together.

Pretty cool, ATS.

Maybe this time the aliens won't park their ships so close. Hasn't anyone in Hollywood figured out all they have to do is sit back and hurl rocks to destroy cities?

Silly aliens.

I watched the first one with anticipation.

Then WILL SMITH knocks out an alien with one punch.

For the first time ever, I left the theater.

Peace

You and me both.

I don't think 2 will make a comeback, if Will is not in it. Just won't be the same.

So let me guess they switch to using antivirus software? because if I remember correctly ol Jeffy boy uses his mac to upload the virus to the alien computer which just happens to accept human code.................................................................................................................................................. ...................................................................................................

yeah.

LULZ usb? universal right?

Did they get an antivirus proggie this time round?

Emmerlich and Devlin should just leave the original film premise alone. There is no need for a sequel. This is a cashgrab. Will Smith isn't attached to the second installment probably because any series of event after a failed Alien invasion would include clean up and a reconstruction of Govenrments and countries.

I can picture Will Smith with a push broom sweeping up the dead alien carcasses into bio-hazard bags, Jeff Goldblum being an IT tech for Best Buy and Bill Pullman needs the work because he has done anything since.

Sounds good to me! I can do without Will Smith, too. His character in the original was fine, but doesn't seem essential to a sequel. Wonder what direction the plot will take.

But they wrote it after studying the alien ship they had already for years.

That movie had more holes in it than Swiss cheese... But still fun to watch.

I bet I know what the sequel is going to be about...

Prolly about cleaning up all the toxic waste that was dumped on the planet.

ID4

Still a better movie than that crappy "Spielberg creative remake of War of the worlds"

He and Tom Snooze sucked the life right out of that potential awesomeness...

I think there was a book prequel, centred around Dr Occums recruitment and career

The aliens must have been using Windows.

If Goldblum is a definite on board for the next adventure, I'll cough up the ticket price....he always gives a good performance.

Don't get me started on the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

Really. My opinions are not pretty.

ID4-II should have massive ground battles.

Premise like

The Alien ships weren't completely destroyed and they launch an all out, knock down, drag out, ground assault from the wrecked ships. Similar to Battle: Los Angeles but with armor and assault choppers, heavy artillery etc etc etc...

You know

War of the Worlds

That would be cool.

I wouldn't mind another Men in black movie either.

How about another Close Encounters Movie?

I would think Spielburg could pull that off if anyone could.

Oh yeah, A good Prometheus sequel is long overdue.

have a great weekend

I think MIB 4 is in production and Prometheus 2 should be out in 2016.
