Saw a report on Sky News earlier and the reporter insisted that at no time did the ships cross into UK territorial waters so it may have been more of a message to the French and that shipbuilding deal they're arguing about right now.
No link sorry, and I keep an open mind for everything...just sharing what I saw reported on the telescreen like a good dissident.

Oh really?? As if Putin hasn't given the western media plenty to write about?

It's all hype? I guess there is such a thing as alternate realities/universes.

let us know when your visit is over.....

I don't see how that article makes him look like a good guy. I can maybe see it as an attempt to to make the navy look like they're busy and not just waiting out the weather, but I fail to see how it makes them look good beyond that.

I guess I should have been a bit more specific...RT as a whole is paid to make him look good not this article, sorry for the confusion.

so russia says thry are training, west says they are just passing thru....the article states that they russian ships, while waiting out the storm are conducting trsining and have used the usual shadowing of planes and. vessels to conduct drills.

so yes they are training, yes they are passing thru and yes they arewaiting out a storm.

they russian headline would make it sound like they went purposely there to train. its the ongoing reminder by rusdia to the west that the west isnt the only country that can run around the world with its military

From November 20th.

A detachment of the Russian Northern Fleet ships of headed for the North-East Atlantic, where they will ensure the safety of maritime economic activities, a representative of the fleet told reporters on Thursday.

The North East Atlantic region includes the Barents, Norwegian, North and Baltic Seas, East Greenland and Iceland, the Azores, the English Channel, and so on.

“Today a detachment of ships and support vessels, led by the “Severomorsk” large anti-submarine ship set off from the main base of the Northern Fleet Severomorsk to the Barents Sea, and headed for the North-East Atlantic,” – said the representative of the fleet.

Except for the “Severomorsk” large anti-submarine ship the detachment includes “Alexander Otrakovsky” amphibious ship, “SB-406″ rescue tug and “Dubna” tanker.

The main goal of the campaign is “ensuring naval presence of Russia in operationally important areas of the World ocean.” In addition, the ships will monitor the safety of maritime navigation and other maritime economic activities of the Russian Federation.

How long before someone with a 'click to donate' button on their conspiracy site starts peddling a story.

Agreed.
A couple of ships passing through is not unusual, it's just classic media focus which is topical to the current doom porn.
Who knows though, perhaps one day we'll regret that complacency?

I am inclined to believe the Russkie's as NATO is crippled by Brussels red tape and the like's of flaming idiot's like David Cameron who reduced our navy's budget and left us without any fighter planes for our carrier's all so the Rich-fat-lardy-arsed-self-important-arrogant-delusional-I-am-rich-so-I-own-you-toffy-nosed-pompous-overcome-by-there-own-over-exuberance moron's can pay less tax, he crippled our navy by trying to merge them with the French navy meaning they would have no idea whose order's to follow and could actually be left in limbo by competing interests between the two country's.
He scrapped so many of our ship's and sub's he is a total and utter disgrace to this nation verging on being a total and utter traitor who has sold us out for his foreign cronies interests.

That is what I think the truth is, the Russians smell weakness and they are correct, they have not backed down over the Ukrain and to be fair I actually think Europe has no right to butt there nose's into that situation as it is the equvilent to Russia that Wale's is to England but money men not our own people are making these disgusting policy's and only doing so for there own vested interests BUT now we are commited we should go the whole hock as to do otherwise will invite further Russian aggression and they will also look to reoccupy Baltic state's if we do despite the fact they only got those as a result of the second world war and Russian Agression, yes I did say Russian Agression, did you know that technically England and France were at war with them at the start of WW2 because they also invaded Poland who was our allie and took half of it, did you also know that when the Nazi's started there systematic genocide of those they believed to be a danger to there race (The Jew's and other's) that it was done following the way the Russian's had been doing it, i.e. the Russian's were machine gunning hundred's of thousand's of dissident's into mass grave's in there forrest's and German pre war observer's were allowed to see how they dealt with there PROBLEM's, the death truck's and gas chamber's only came about because of the german's seeing the use of all those bullet's as highly inneficiant and expensive.

History can be a dangerous thing, the Russian's want to have a look at the Crimean war and how a smaller British expeditionary army kicked there butt's, there soldier's were inferior then and they are inferior now with only vastly more number's on there side and if it ever did get into a slinging match it would eventually be a nuclear slinging match so no one would win that and if the Russian's think we are coward's maybe someone should quote the charge of the light brigade at the battle of baliclava to them (I actually think we should not have fough the Russians in that war until they crossed our own territory as that was a war against Turkey which we put our nose into, starting to sound a little familiar is it not, had they taken turkey the Tsar wanted to restore the Orthodox church which I believe he was justified in, but if they could not beat our small army what chance would they have had against a few hundred thousand raging turk's.

The problem is Putin is a small man, his country is being surrounded and there is no if's or but's about that, Eastern Ukrain is rightfully and historically part of Russia only moved into the administritive control of the Ukrain during the recent Soviet period after the war by a Ukrainian born Soviet Premier, he feel's like the bully's are getting him and being a small nasty little man he want's to show them he is as big as them so threat's against him and sanctions will not work but action will, of course that may and probably will precipitate further retaliatory action from him and a vicious circle get's ever more vicious, he is not a banker or an oligarch, he is a former Soviet KGB colonel and a true believer in the Soviet idiology, he is also not a coward which make's him even more dangerous.

Our politicians have never fired a gun in anger, they are shirt and tie male secretary's and that is the problem.

The western media didn't need Russia to write about but have been choosing to do so . Dont forget that who the west wants to destroy they need to first vilify . It's a pattern of theirs . Just following the trail back you can witness it with Iraq Libya Syria or present day Russia . It;s the patterns that you have to look at . a reply to: nwtrucker

a source calling this flottilla " battleships " clearly has acess to the best military analysis - and should be trusted implicitly

meanwhile back in the real wold :

ROFLMAO @ " battleships "

I can't even imagine what a modern Battleship would cost today. Subs can do so much more I would think. Just too large and basically "Missile Bait" You could verify this with the crew of the Bismark.. don't think many of those guys made it outta that shooting gallery

I predict that the following will be the next story involving the Russian Navy in the coming weeks.

The Russian Navy Baltic Fleet Oceanographic research ship Admiral Vladimirksy is currently heading for the West Coast of the US. She was scheduled for a visit to Canada but that appears to off the cards due to the souring of relations. I expect that she will snoop around the Gulf of Mexico / Florida after her transit through the Panama Canal?

She has already been north of Hawaii and now appears to be heading for the West Coast of the US.

She is sending regular Morse Code weather and sea conditions back to various fleet head quarters. When the conditions are good I can pick her up here in the UK.

LOL nice rant . "He scrapped so many of our ship's and sub's he is a total and utter disgrace to this nation verging on being a total and utter traitor who has sold us out for his foreign cronies interests." Well at least you got a few Billion $ for a few you sent to Canada . Which by the way have been under repair ever sense .

Thanks for the history lesson from where you are . When I say west I am from Canada's east coast so I guess it's possible to be even further from the truth of the matter . That tells me that context is everything . What matters to Washington means little to me and may even be detrimental to you . peace a reply to: LABTECH767

I would love to have been in HMS Tyne's communications room while they were 'escorting' the Russian ships, wonder what conversations went on between them all...would make the MSM stories sound a bit overly dramatic I reckon.

Yeah I did go off on a rant, sorry everyone.

The Canadian's are big and old enough to cut there string's to Britain as well as having some of the finest and bravest soldier's of the former empire.
I suppose it is cheaper than building new one's and superior to the vessels Russia is using to try to take the continental shelf but with old tech come's old problem's and often new equipment need's to be gerry rigged into old ship's, Canade really need's a state of the art Arctic maritime force not a sub arctic group of sold off second hand ship's, sorry about that as well but I supposed the Canadian governmant was in a rush with the Russian's making those claim's so the next Generation will undoubtedly be purpose built, Canada also need's' it's own sosus system and anti tamper countermeasure's to dissuade the Russian's however I do think it is only a matter of time before Russian interests backed up by the Chinese start to really encroach on disputed territory there.

I hardly doubt that the Arctic is not big enough for the many nations that are there now . Russia does seem to have the upper hand though . I guess someone has to have so getting into a pissing match is not the way to go and I don't think Russia is looking at it that way .The Canadian Govt. on the other hand would love to grease some of their overlords hands to the south . They seem to be stuck in their desire to buy the Stealth 35 fighters despite the cost or what the military has had to say about them . If Global warming dosen't soon happen they may be stuck with the dog sleds because of the ice .At least they took the steps with the creation of the Inuit nation they could partner with to say they do have a presence there . Sovereignty ..check ...Now lets hope it warms up . a reply to: LABTECH767

You see what you want to see. The same logic can be applied to the 'evil Zionists'. the 'great satan', on and on.

You merely select the 'west' version as you claim the west media does. Same difference.

I can assume you desire the destruction of the west? It's exactly what you accuse the west of.

If it squats like a duck, quacks like a duck.....

Technically a warship can go down the channel so long as it calls in before hand be it Russian or American, training can mean many things even getting the top brass of the ship used to sorting things out in a small fleet environment and maintaining formations etc and who knows they may of been updating their sonar charts to know where the banks are
