Illegal immigrants could receive Social Security, Medicare under Obama action

Under President Obama’s new program to protect millions of illegal immigrants from deportation, many of those affected will be eligible to receive Social Security, Medicare and a wide array of other federal benefits, a White House official said Tuesday.

In his speech on Thursday night, the president touted his plan as a means of bringing accountability to a broken immigration system, under which 11 million or more people are estimated to be living in this country illegally.

We’re going to offer the following deal: If you’ve with been in America more than five years. If you have children who are American citizens or [legal] residents. If you register, pass a criminal background check and you’re willing to pay your fair share of taxes, you’ll be able to apply to stay in this country temporarily without fear of deportation,” he said. “You can come out of the shadows and get right with the law.”

Where to start with this comment?

First off 'pay your fair share' that was damn right hilarious. Since those illegals will be on social programs will mean tax credits, and all the 'fringe' benefits the rest of the poor folk are on.

Which is why half of the country doesn't pay income tax, and since the people receiving government benefits are getting out more than they ever paid in. Stuff like the 'alternative minimum tax' was created, and the medicare capital gains TAX was created.

Even more interesting 'passing' a criminal background check. So I am left wondering whose? Ours or Mexico's.

But the 'presidents' comment to me sounds more akin to what those sweat shops do to illegals.

Here we pay for you to come here, and 'work' off your debt to us.

I see the party of slavery is alive and well today. Because that does sound like slavery to me, or what some call indentured servitude.

I think it is BS. It kinda says we can pick and chose the laws we will obey doesn't it?
I know a lot of people who drive without a license. Is that ok? If they do so for 5 years can they get amnesty?

I understand that the Republicans would do nothing to resolve this issue but that EO makes me think he is a dictator or king.

I am a union building trades member and typically vote Dem but this is embarrassing.

But there should be some public record of who applies for amnesty or is it just given sight unseen? If there is a record we should be able to track who does what and who and how many get welfare money.

For those who work, that includes payroll taxes, also known as FICA taxes, because they are collected under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act.

The tax payments are usually split between employer and employee and include 12.4 percent collected to pay for Social Security, as well as 2.9 percent to pay for Medicare.

If they're working with a work permit and are paying payroll taxes why would they not be eligible to receive these benefits?

It also says in the article that you posted that they won't be able to apply for food stamps or financial aid.

What wrong with it is the FACT people get MORE out than they ever paid in.

Which is why those social programs count on NEW PEOPLE being adding to pay for those who are getting those benefits.

See the money 'raised' doesn't even begin to cover it.

I don't really get the point of whining about it. Though I think the borders should be more secure I feel that integration is necessary. Why not allow our fellow man into this country freely with open arms? If the place you live becomes so unbearable you risk you and your families lives to find somewhere where you have a chance you should take it. The only reason it is such a huge political fuss is because those rich ****** don't want to lose a buck on their slave labor.

Since immigration laws don't matter.

Then his ACA law doesn't matter.

NO PERSON or GROUP of people is above the law.

Which is why we have laws to begin with.

They could but, it is far more likely that they will be prosecuted for tax evasion and deported.

I once read they couldn't bring our troops home because the economy would crash. Not enough jobs to support the return of our soldiers. The only hope was to round up all the illegals, deport them and then let our veterans fill in the holes.

Looks like that isn't going to happen. Makes me think we keep them fighting just to avoid our own demise.

Some of them already do receive benefits; fake id's, illegal social security and medicare is big business in California. One day an illegal tried to sell me a fake social security card in downtown LA (I guess he thought I was Latino). Obama's move may not be the best move but I think it's an effort to curb the huge illegal underground market of false identity "identity theft" A common wise-crack was that you might have to share your social security number with an illegal.

Legal scholars: Obama's immigration actions lawful

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 100 immigration professors and scholars declared Tuesday that President Barack Obama's decision to make several million immigrants illegally in the United States eligible to be spared from deportation is constitutional and within his administrative powers.

The 135 scholars focused on two major provisions of Obama's executive actions announced last week. One would shield parents of U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents from deportation and allow them to apply for work permits. The other measure would expand a program that shielded immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally as children. Those two programs could affect up to 4.4 million people.

The scholars' statement asserts that the president's actions are a proper use of prosecutorial discretion.

The people affected will be paying their taxes, will not be able to vote, will be documented, do have American family members, etc.

Pull your heads out of the Republican mainstream media for a second and look at the facts.
