Don't get too worked up. This person is a hypothetical law graduate (and therefore would know how to not get taxed).

I didn't change any words. I quoted you verbatim. You are the one with problems standing by what you wrote.

I say do away with income and property taxes all together for everyone.

The problem is not that "they" have too much, but rather that we dont have enough of what is ours by natural law.

They would just find a way to not pay taxes and be vindicated by saying they pay 90% on paper. Many of our wealthy would just leave the country and we would be screwed.

I say no taxes but sales taxes. Also, restructure the IRS, remove the fed and allow people to earn 100% of what they earn.

I dont hate the top 1%. I have issues with the government.

wouldn't work....if I made 30,000 a year, I would be spending all of it to live on...if I made 1,000,000 a year, and spent 30,000 a year to live on, I would have 97% of my income free of tax, to do anything with, or take anywhere I wanted.
the only fair tax, is a progressive tax....caveats would be...even people making 5,000 a year or less would pay income taxes, dividends taxed same as income, all corporations and companies would pay a mandatory 10% tax....the % of the different progressive tax rates, would be set to be as low as possible, meaning....no individual income group would be paying any less or more of a % than the other groups.

I was willing to give you the benifit of the doubt for just misguided anger.

But it appears you really do have a inbuilt hatred with anyone that is rich.

Your hurting your own cause here!

I want to see a fairer workable system and the end to crony capitilism be that replaced by a hong kong style free market or norway light socilist (what the USA chooses is not my concern).

But indiscriminate attacks on the rich? Wont work and quite frankly are wrong.

You need to look at and find the ones actually responsible and direct that hate at them.

Your enemys for you are sitting in DC or have the surnames Rothchilds, rockfella, morgan, bloomberg, soros ect they are also the high court judges that declare people above the law or too big to jail and the over paid public servants who suck tax money in with 6 figure salaerys for little work out put. They are the CEO of corperations useing the wellfare state to profit or bypassing immigration laws or avoiding tax that everyone else is paying.

The doctor or lawyer that worked hard to get were they are are not your enemys, nor are the taxpaying buissnessmen who have stuck by the law.

Higher taxes is not what anyone needs.

Just equal application of existing taxes and laws for all.

Indiscriminate attacks on the rich is no better than what happend under Lenin and Stalin or under Mao. Sure they got rid of a rotton and evil astrostocray but they also killed millions of scientists, doctors and other honnestly succefull people.

What makes a progressive tax "fair?" Other than one's opinion of the value of another's labor and what they need and what is "fair?"

I can swing with that. Hong Kong style free markets without big brother and without cronyism for the win.

We've got a (as of 2013) 73,954 page federal tax code. We need to get rid of that and impose a flat tax with a single rate without a single loophole or deduction and apply it to everyone.

I didn't twist anything. I've quoted you verbatim. You are the one twisting and dancing whenever you've been caught in a misrepresentation or not even bothering to read the articles you "source." And now, typical of those without an argument, you resort to plugging your ears (metaphorically) and going "blah, blah" like a 5 year old who has been caught out.

Your position is just as flimsy and unfounded and obviously without an intellectual basis. It is your ideology over all and facts and truth, even concerning your own words, be damned. Typical.

What makes it fair? The theorem you adhere to, I would guess.

Some prescribe to the equal tax theorem, some prescribe to the equal burden theorem. (There are more, but I question the relevance of going past these two.)

They all have their own merits and flaws, and they can all be argued as 'fair'.

No. Progressive taxation doesnt work either.

The only thing that has been proven to work is allowing people to keep what they earn. There is less money for social programs but all things considered, if we could keep what we earn we would not need social assistance.

If you want every bit of this country's wealth to leave the country then propose a tax hike like this.

Also, If I make a million a year, I will be spending more than what a person making 50 grand a year spends. Its not like I dont have a right to my money whether its a little or an obscene amount. Its freaking MINE. Who the hell is anyone to take away what I worked for?

If I work really hard all my life I expect to be rich, or at least will try to be. Its not like I miss my children´s lives and my own life for the good of social charity. If you came to me and asked for my life's work I would either kill you or leave the country with it.

Of course they should be taxted highlt- though 905 SEEMS EXTREME - 75 - 805 far better

The only reason these companies make so much is by using staff who went through the school system and a thousand different other tax sponsored services in order to be a good profitable worker.

It's only reasonable way they pay their fair share. Simple as.

whats a fair share?

Like what is that?, not how much but what is "fair share"?

If everyone paid the same it would be fair. To ask people who have more to give more just because they have more is not fair. Not by any stretch.

Lets at least be honest about what this is.

This is class justice as proposed. Class warfare as vile as one targeting the lowest of our society. Its not "fair".

the % of tax paid would be the "fair" part...if a student made 1,000 a year working at Mcdonalds, he would pay 100 dollars in taxes, if a poor person made 20,000 a year he would pay 2,000 in taxes, if a middle income person made 60,000 a year, he would pay 6,000 in taxes, if a rich person made 500,000 a year, he would pay 50,000 in taxes, if a wealthy person made 10,000,000 a year he would pay 1 million in taxes...it would not have to be 10%, but all groups would pay the same percentage, depending on the amount of taxes from other income areas, that was not individual income.

No taxation theorem, including an absence of taxation, has been proven to work.

Every single theorem has had successes and failures.

The higher earners already pay most of the federal income tax than the rest and use fewer services. Seems they already pay "their fair share."

Of course, all of this talk about "fairness" is really code for "I want to take more from other people 'cause they have more than me."

Right. A flat tax that is applied to everyone is fair. I agree with that. There would then be no need for a 73,000 page tax code and armies of lawyers and accountants to keep individuals and business in compliance. It would save everyone money (except tax lawyers) and boost the economy.

Everyone would have skin in the game and that might even encourage them to vote more responsibly.

I disagree.

Wealth doesnt grow for a country under higher taxation.

If the middle class wasnt the real target of all this I would think like you guys. Since this is not about a 1% but rather is about people making around 100K...which is the middle class, I then refuse to entertain moral arguments as if they were founded in logic.

Typical response when you have no point to make. When all you can do is screech the same thing time after time, you really just look like a juvenile. I heard stuff like this from my kids when they were teenagers. Thankfully, by the time they got to be adults they had a better idea of real life.
Have you ever actually sat down and written out a budget/financial plan? Do you have any clue as to how the process of planned spending and savings works?
It appears that all you want is to stamp your little feet and yell because someone has more money than you and to get "even" you want their money taken from them and given to the government. It's like giving a drunk a bottle of Woodford Reserve!
Perhaps if you spent more time concentrating on how to make your own life better and less time yelling about people who have more money than you, you could make a difference. Go ahead, sit down and write out your goals, make a budget with a plan to achieve your goals. It's hard work, but it does work, works far better than whining. I dare you. See if you can do a better job of managing your life than the government does.
