BEIJING (Reuters) - China blocked the massive Yangtze River on Sunday, starting to fill a reservoir for the world's biggest hydroelectric project
that is a point of national pride but that critics fear will become an environmental nightmare.
Live television footage showed cascades of white water roaring as sluice gates drew slowly shut on the Three Gorges dam, China's biggest engineering
project since the Great Wall was built more than 2,000 years ago.
Well it's not just the ancient artifacts that are lost, this will mean an ecological disaster. In highschool I read many articles for my geography
classes, about the negative effects on the environment that needs the rivers' floodings. And the lower rise fields will get in trouble too. The idea
is to pump water from the huge lake, but that will cost another few billions of dollars...
