But it really is not, this is just one site finally running a story on it.
You can go to almost any gun thread and this defense and who said it will be brought up.
This is just a article ran to get everyone wound up before elections.

And to the point of spraying some one with spray being illegal, so is shooting some one if it is not self defense.
When you do something in self defense, lots of laws get grey areas.
Again, not saying this method should be your go to, but the spraying being illegal thing is being taken out of context IMO.

I would think that pepper spray of bear spray would be a better option IF you were unarmed. Setting off a car alarm usually gets ignored at least for awhile. Cowering? I guess you could try and talk the intruder out of his intent. The bug spray shoots a stream and it would be difficult to get it in his eye.

I think the three options giving to fight off an intruder could cost you your life. Without a firearm, my next option would be a sharp object that is close by such as a knife.

Without an equal weapon my chances of surviving would not be very good.

You do know, that if you pull a gun while a crime is being committed on you, that it's 60% more likely to be used on YOU than you use it for defense.

This is statistical FACT.

Also statistical fact that countries with very low numbers of guns have very low numbers of gun crimes. It's a proven statistical FACT that of course, the pro gun idiots completely ignore.

The countries with the lowest numbers of guns have by far the lowest amounts of gun deaths and gun crimes, while the countries with the highest number of guns have by far the highest numbers of gun crimes and gun deaths.

Want to hear more pro gun ridiculousness? In the USA, it's illegal to sell Kinder Surprise chocolate because the toy inside the egg is a choking hazard for children, but it's perfectly legal to leave a loaded gun on a coffee table where any two year old can use a trigger that's so light that a kid can have the strength to fire the gun.

Simple tactics would make guns safer - how about a trigger that requires more pressure to fire, so that the average kid wouldn't actually have the strength to fire a gun?

As soon as I see police and military carrying automatic wasp spray I'll carry it too.
Otherwise I'll be keeping my firearms, thank you very much.
I'm sure the ceo's and owners of the major networks have their personal security carrying the same things they recommend we use.....

As far as I'm concerned this is a non issue.
Much like regular laws, gun laws/bans are only obeyed by law abiding citizens.
Criminals won't be turning in their guns and they sure as hell won't be using raid or car keys to rob and murder cowering citizens.

Screw NBC, Government and anyone else who thinks we should not have the option of deadly force to defend ourselves or our families.

If anyone gets my guns it will be cause I died defending them and if they do manage to get them and I survive, I will make my own lethal defenses.

Here's a FACT for you, none of my firearms have shot anyone.

Please don't cram your FACTS down my throat and call me an idiot. I have commited no crimes with my firearms, so your FACTS are a moot point.

I see Canada as your location so here is one little fact.

Fact: After the implementation of Canada’s 1977 gun controls prohibiting handgun possession for protection, the “breaking and entering” crime rate rose 25%, surpassing the American rate.

I could go on but I will quit here.

Firstly, the gov't WON'T be getting any of my guns.

Secondly, while I have a few loads set to group as tight as a virgin's honey pot at 350 yds, my knowledge of chemistry would be what I employed if I was ever going to act up. BAH & WHOOM!

You'd think that chemistry instruction would be limited in schools.

The debate on gun control will continue until someone says, "That's enough of this non-issue." The 2nd isn't going to be changed. Worrying that it is, and that it's more important than you think it is, only extends this useless conversation. I've seen all sides by now and realize that gun proponents don't want ANY change. When mass shootings happen they say, "It's mental illness, not guns." Someone suggests, "Why don't we have licensing dictated after a psych exam"? "That's further restrictions on our rights." OK. Got a solution then? Other than the status quo? Where it's OK for all of this as long as it isn't your own getting killed?

They forgot some obvious ones:

- Lock your doors
- Remind intruders of the law when they confront you
- Hire a ninja

So for Home invasion.

1. Good Strong Doors, Locks and Window Locks.
2. Exposed and well Lit Entries and fronts
2.5...know your nieghbors and look out for each other. This is HUGE!
3. Dogs...They don't have to be Rotwiellers or PitBulls...just Medium sized with a good loud bark.
4. Martial Arts training that includes practical self defense-This will include use of keys, and other objects and sticks and hand to hand.
5. A shotgun. Hard to miss--Painful--potentially deadly...the loud Cock sometimes will send intruders the other way.
6. You can supliment all this with Knives, pepperspray, tasers, handguns...but you better train in how to use them.

There's more of course but that should be your starting point.

the most important 2.5...know your nieghbors and look out for each other. This is HUGE! I DO NOT HAVE ANY NEIGHBORS.

I think I got the rest of your home invasion covered!

Actually no it won't! It will rid law abiding citizens from means to protect themselves! Criminals will still have their guns!!

Actually any loud dog is better than no dog - Loud noise alerts the owners and neighbors of their presence and they are likely to abort.

Nice try at disinformation. Not in my state.

Sec. 46.13. MAKING A FIREARM ACCESSIBLE TO A CHILD. (a) In this section:

(1) "Child" means a person younger than 17 years of age.

(2) "Readily dischargeable firearm" means a firearm that is loaded with ammunition, whether or not a round is in the chamber.

(3) "Secure" means to take steps that a reasonable person would take to prevent the access to a readily dischargeable firearm by a child, including but not limited to placing a firearm in a locked container or temporarily rendering the firearm inoperable by a trigger lock or other means.

(b) A person commits an offense if a child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm and the person with criminal negligence:

(1) failed to secure the firearm; or

(2) left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access.

Same here. I live out in the country. Anybody that pulls up... We should know. Out here, 911 doesn't always arrive fast enough. Out here, we are often our own 911. It would be sheer idiocy not to be able to protect yourself In that type of situation IMO.

Not all of us live within a 3 block radius of a police department.

Did they really recommend wasp spray?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Da Fudge.
I can just see somebody trying to use wasp spray now and suing NBC.

Average response time for police after 911 call 5 to 15 Min depending. Average response time for my .40 S&W over 1100 feet per second.

But if somebody were breaking into my place I wouldn’t bust out the pistol. I would bust out my Remington 870 with 00 Buck shot. Nothing is more intimidating than the sound of a pump action shotgun being chambered.
