I have never seen so much fear, angst and anxiety lately on these forums. Yes, there are people in the world who want to hurt us, and yes Ebola is out there. Some of the fear is valid, some is overblown.

The fear is valid, but the way most are reacting and responding to it is not. Let me give some advice...

1. CALM DOWN

2. GROW A PAIR!!!!!!

I am not writing this to demean or anger anyone. I am writing this because it is what is required to deal with the present world situation.
Fear only magnifies any threat. Sometimes that is good if it prompts us to react in an effective rational manner. But if it causes us to go into an emotional tailspin, it does not. I think the latter is true in most cases at present.

Living in America, I know that our country was a vastly different place a hundred years ago. People routinely died from tooth aches, cholera, dysentery, and the flu. Sometimes you had to bury a loved one yourself. The only social safety net you had, was YOU. If you went into the wilderness, you had to build a shelter from local materials and survive with pretty much NOTHING, or not survive. Life expectancy was much lower, if you lived to 40 you were considered ancient. I remember going to a 18th-19th century cemetery in Pennsylvania years ago and the oldest person in the cemetery was 26!

People were tougher then, they were more resilient and they didn't think about what could happen, they proactively tried to PREVENT it from happening whenever possible.

Now we stay glued to the TV, we live in fear,we wait for someone to save us or tell us what to do. I can hardly believe we descended from the people who built this country. There is one piece of information that I believe will help with this:

NO WANT IS GOING TO SAVE YOU BUT YOU.

When there is a threat or crisis, calmly and rationally think about how you are going to deal with it. The immediate effect is that you will FEEL BETTER. You are smarter and stronger than you know. There is strength and resolve that we ALL have but don't realize it because we NEVER use those talents anymore.

I wish everyone here luck and peace.

Amen, OP, amen. This quivering-in-the-corner mass hysteria is utterly idiotic. Just live your life, don't be the blubbering fearful puddle the media is turning everyone into right now. If anything sweeps across the globe and knocks out a huge portion of the population, there ain't a damn thing we can do to prevent or hinder something that virulent.

I'm so not looking forward to flu season. My kids & I caught a cold and the older kiddo is terrified thanks to paper headlines in the stores and news teases on TV (we do watch local evening news) I can't tell you how many times I've been asked "Mom, do I have ebola??" Fear-peddling bastards.

From what I've read so far on the plethora of threads on the topic mentioned you are right to a certain extent, however, I'm sure the percentage of people who are looking at this rationally is a lot larger than indicated by some of the replies here at ATS.

If the opposite were true, we'd already be seeing mass panic in the streets, Run at the super markets and many people bugging in an attempt to separate themselves from the potential outbreak.

As far as our ancestors being more resilient than our present generations, sure they were hearty and rose to the challenges before them but as you pointed out many died at a very young age of '26'.

There is strength and resolve that we ALL have but dont realize it becuase we NEVER use those talents anymore

Some don't, not all don't. Even then, I'm pretty sure those who don't or haven't as of yet, may have other talents and abilities we here in the 21st century may find of value in our modern world. In other words our story hasn't finished being written. Read our epitaph a hundred years from now, not before its only been partially written.

I find it more worrisome that a huge part of ATS wishes Ebola to hit the public of US so they can point their fingers at the government for being retards and not taking it seriously enough.

Idiocracy comes to mind

And from the same folks who despise & are vehemently against government interference in peoples' lives, no less. Nobody should tell Americans what to do, not even the government! Except if you might be sick. And maybe it's something that spreads. And maybe could be possibly ebola-ish. Then all bets are off.
Some logic there, eh?

Bleh.... I am so sick of people accusing me of being flipped out about Ebola, I feel a bit disgruntled about the accusation.

In my work, I am in a vulnerable position for contracting all sorts of disease (I work in a hospital). I choose to wear a mask as well as gloves while handling things which have the saliva and/or vomit on them of patients. I don't ask anyone else to, I don't talk about why I am doing it unless asked.

When asked, I respond that it is a precautionary measure, especially in case of Ebola. Then they accuse me of being paranoid and freaking out unecessarily. I am not freaking out, I am not scared to death- I feel I am acting reasonably, responsibly.

They, however, say they turn off the TV if Ebola is mentioned, they proclaim it will never come into this country (despite the flood of immigrants running from the affected countries into this one) and that it is nonsense.

I suspect that such exagerrated attempts at dismissal indicate a lot of fear on THEIR part, that they are in denial about and projecting upon me. I'm facing the subject, they are running from it.

I guess my point here (besides venting my irritation with my personal experience) is to point out that because people are dicsussing it here, does not necessarily mean they are freaking out in fear. They may be very interested, looking for information, asking questions, and commenting on it, but without the tone of voice, body language and all, that can easily be misinterpretted as being more emotional than it is really is.

But...
I'm a lady. If I grow a pair, not only will my clothes fit strangely but I'm sure my husband would be very upset.

Oh good old fear, nothing manifests itself to ourselves faster than our fears.

I for one fully agree with the op,
I've had to seriously cut down my ATS use from the headache of every other thread being an Ebola thread, just like a month ago it was isis.

Not to say these aren't valid threats in any way, but in these times fear will as it always has been the worst way to confront any Obstacle.

People would probably be a lot calmer if the government was doing it's job correctly in this matter; if the CDC wasn't hell bent on screwing up; and if the Ebola infected would stop being selfish and stupid (Duncun and Nurse Amber).

Yeah, I hear you. My wife is not a news junkie like me, but ever since the Ebola thing, she can't get enough of watching CNN about the latest updates on Ebola. She's driving me crazy talking about it all the time. No matter how upset you are about the Ebola scare, the situation is out of our control. Take precautions, but live your life, what will be will be.

OP, I so disagree with your post, I'd downvote it if there was an option.

Why?

Because I have not seen the doom-porn or the worry you talk about. I have seen very updated alternative news about Ebola on here however, for which I am grateful because if I had to rely on MSM alone, I'd be completely ,misled.
TBH, apart from one or two posters who have considered moving to the countryside, I have not noticed that anyone is scared irrationally.
As a matter of fact, whatever I read seems to be about people NOT taking Ebola too seriously!
From sloppy protocols to the person on the street not even knowing what is actually going on, to the people on the cruise ship not seeming to be bothered [still eating, drinking, laughing, even though they are sharing a confined space with a possibly infectious person, that could kill them] to health care workers not being informed/trained properly.

You are mixing up 'a lot of information' with 'worried' or 'fear mongering'.

Apart from ISIL, Ebola happens to be THE news at the moment that we can observe as it enfolds. That means there will be more posts on this...hang on...Conspiracy website. I welcome this, because I am very interested in the Ebola thing. If I could I would want to read MORE. So I am up to date on it.

Am I worried? Not at all.

You are also mixing up 'being interested' with 'not having balls'.

If anyone would listen to you, we'd stop posting anything and tell you to 'stay calm and ignore the whole thing'. How is that possible on a site like this [cause that is what ATS is for], why would we want to do that and who would benefit from us being disinterested and ignoring one of the biggest news stories as of late?

Seriously.
