What would be the power equivalent of a Mag 12 EQ?

It has to be absolutely tremendous.

Ok....thank you all...let's just chalk up a glitch in the matrix, thankfully, until we see that West Africa has plopped into the Atlantic. I still think it's really weird it's uncorrected though...does anyone have their phone number?

Nuclear detonations have been picked up on sensors halfway around the world. Tests in North Korea have been picked up in the US.

If it was nuclear it would have been picked up all over. They have a different wave form too.

Obviously it's HAARP.

Aha...I didn't know that about the wave form...I'm not technical at all. So it's not a nuke either, probably. What about an asteroid strike? What do they look like seismically?

mag 12? wow. surely a mistake??

Ok...the BBC have a reporter apparently still alive and wriggling in Lagos, with no mention of asteroids, earthquakes, tsunamis or nukes, so yup....a glitch, I think.

Unless it's a fake report and he's not really in Lagos, of course.

Richter magnitude scale shown

Scale

Just scroll down it lists the effects of large earthquakes

A mag 9.5 is 2.7 gigatons of TNT.

According to the wiki, 13.0 would be the same energy release as the asteroid that killed the dinos (in the teratons).

If a 12.0 hit anywhere on the Earth, it would be felt more than likely by everyone on the Earth.

While there is no upper limit to the Richter scale, I think there is an upper limit for the Earth itself, just can't remember what that is.

I'm sure one of our earthquake experts on here can chime in on it.

That would be some massive tectonic plate shifts.

No one going to throw in a space alien event. Maybe it's the start of scrapping Earth for a new space way.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for.
I suspected that any of us would have felt a magnitude 12, no matter where we were at on Earth.

LOL

So basically a mag 13 caused by the collision of the asteroid that took out the dinosaurs...

Problem solved....

It`s not true. And even if it was, I would not click on that guys video.
-Looks like a Doom~Tard on steroids. The interweb has enough of them.

I completely agree...he's totally over the top, a total drama queen...but I wanted the truth about that report he was waving at us.

If I remember right, the upper limit of Earth caused quakes is between 9.5 to 10.0. Has to do something with plate tectonics and the energy produced.

Anything more than that would have to be caused by something external (IE a very large asteroid impact).

Only the OPs link is showing this "12.0", neither the USGS or RSOE are showing it. Wondering if the site the OP linked got hacked and someone is having a good joke.

WOW. It's there alright.
But it's gotta' be a mistake.

I agree would HAVE to be a mistake. That far off the coast would surely cause a tsunami.

yes and it is list at a depth of 00...so a bomb on the surface I would assume

Nothing on RSOE

from what I've read about the subject even a mag ten is unlikely as the length of a fault line has implications on size
for instance a 12 mag (unless caused by a comet or asteroid impact) would have to be generated by a single fault line that encircled the globe, and the whole thing would have to shift.

Wow an eq so powerful it somehow broke the time barriers of tomorrow when the earth stood still. At least we all have 24 hrs warning.

ok...another weird thing. Bishop2199 just posted a screenshot of the report on the Quake Watch thread, and the information window cites USGS as the source of the details. It's all a bit bizarre.

Maybe they detonated something around Guinea or around the area.......

Ebola containment measure?
