Peace

Ive never really liked or believed these "oh i found this on Mars" pics/videos.. But this one is very intriguing.. If you look closely it almost looks like an old gothic style cross.. Especially if you look above the circle you kind of notice the worn outline of a cross.. As shown i. My pic below.. I outlined it on my smartphone so sorry its not 100% accurate but just a marker to show what i see..

PS. Im not religious

Some people may have already said this, but that's from the "Microscopic Imager," and it's probably the negative impression from the head of a screw from where part of the rover pressed against that area.

You are the first to notice that. I was reading all the comments to say so and low and behold the last.

Looking at the cutting tool, it's pretty easy to see where that 'design' came from.

Thats pretty amazing.. if you squint it becomes even clearer ! and there looks to be even more to the right of the rock.
One petroglyph looks like an arrow >

Great post OP

Great pic

However i tend to agree with the "cutting tool" explanation for this one.

Just as a aside . . . When did Mars become a recognized ancient or lost civilizastion ?
Wouldnt the aliens forum have been more appropriate?

It's fun when things are rationally explained (but even more fun when they can't be, I suppose)

sorry but i only see rocks

i come to these threads in the hopes of being finally convinced there's something more to mars than a barren wasteland, but its always rocks.it always have been. exception made for cydonia and the face and the monolith on phobos. why dont we explore there?

Looks like the imprint of a phillips head screw, likely from the camera apparatus.

I did a quick experiment with a power supply and some coffee creamer.

The creamer was pretty coarse... I'm thinking dessicated fine powder in an extremely thin atmosphere would yield better results, though this even picked up the little dot in the one quadrant of the screw head.

We already have this all figured out...well, except that some people still want to argue against the obvious, but that's besides the point

There are two threads on it in the UFO section. Got redirected here by the mod and just noticed it was in a different sub-forum.

Yeah - Celtic Martian cross indeed. :-)

Martian diatom was a better-bet ... www.sciencephoto.com...

But it's an impression of a screw-head from the APXS thing.

Gee, I was all set to laugh at yet another "great find" on Mars.
But I'm not laughing.
2 circles like that is very hard to explain as the result of natural processes.
You got me! Good find.
