ISIS, ISIL? Which is it?

Why does everyone but the politicians refer to the group as ISIS?
Obama himself continues to call them ISIL? Is there a reason for this? I read somewhere the ISIL includes Isreal, is that true?
Curious member here wanting to know.

I dunno I don't think they are even worthy of having there name learnt.

As far as I know, Isil, Isis, IS are one in the same...

My personal take is they screwed up and called them ISIS at first and then realized that no Islamic group would EVER name themselves after an Egyptian goddess so then they tried to backpedal on the name. It's a trick no doubt. I don't buy this war on terror stuff anymore.

They call themselves Daʿesh. ISIS, ISIL and IS are just english acronyms for the same thing.

ISIL refers to "Levant" which does not recognize Israel as a nation-state.

The French are officially calling them, Daesh, which is making the Islamic State angry.

Daesh means bigots who try to force their beliefs on others

It has become the official French word for them.

We should take their lead and if the Pres doesn't want to drop Islamic State, a great moniker would be:

Islamic State of Daesh

is the very best name of all for them.

It means those who follow Islam and want Islam as state religion worldwide,
who are bigots who force their beliefs on others.

Perhaps the various pollies use ISIS, ISIL and IDK what else to confuse the good ol' public and make some think there are various different groups running around the place.

Technically, their name is 'Islamic State', or IS.

The term ISIS comes from their previous English translation which stood for 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.' ISIL is a variant of the aforementioned, which included the term 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.' Levant is another term used for the Eastern Mediterranean region.

iSIS gives the group ambitions only in Syria and Iraq. ISIL attributes them with imperial/regional goals. No surprise they declared themselves a caliphate. They were told to :p

I was wondering this last night when I overheard Obama talking. He referred to them as ISIL.

I want to get it right, I mean I'm sure these guys want it spelled correctly on their IMDB page.

It's Islamic State. That's their way of telling you that they want the whole Arabian peninsula from the Red Sea to the Euphrates..for starters!

I thought ISIS was a branch of the CIA or something. Not to mention that the group is not a state. ISIS is also a Egyptian Goddess/God or whatever, so I proceed to call them ISIL too.
