Applause for you, EOMS. (Mind if i call you that?) Excellent question, not because the answer is so powerful (whatever it is), but because it requires thought and consideration. It also ties in very well with communication, our first issue here.

Sorry, Bassago, I feel like going to work for a moment.

The name of the color matters if we expect others to have the same understanding of it that we do. ("But, Officer, it looked green to me." "That color is red, now get out of the car.) It's important to us to know what "red" and "green" mean, so we make the effort to communicate to the motoring public.

With slang, it's important for some people to not only convey a meaning but also to let people know they're a different part of society.

When we try to communicate with everyone, we're saying that the person and his ideas are important to us and it's worth the effort to communicate well. I suspect that much of the world doesn't care about others, so they don't even try to communicate. Without understanding of people or their thoughts, misunderstandings, anger, and violence increase.

It used to be that the people who couldn't speak Greek were called barbarians. Perhaps now the term means people who cannot talk and listen to others.

Colors are tough anyway. They're almost subjective unless you use something like a Pantone color matching system but I get what you're saying. Kind of like the question Mouse asked in the first Matrix movie about how did Neo know what Tasty Wheat tasted like maybe it really tasted like tuna fish.

Nice song, he reminds me just a little of a musical John Denver. But I really don't know anything about him. He looks a bit like the hunter in your avatar.

I've never thought about it that way and it's an interesting perspective from a "what if" question.
You make me think a bit more but that's not a bad thing. If anything i've learned you're highly analytical.
You're on to something calling those who can't talk and listen to others barbarians.

Thats very true but what was meant by that was those people who wait their turn to speak rather than listen and those that speak only to hear their own voice

@Charles,

OK, I am just adding a little note before leaving for work this morning.

Of course the music you posted was very good. I had wanted to say something and put up some Louis Armstrong in response, and then I went with the Spike Jones instead which had been an idea I had before that. That and Louis Armstrong was competing with Kool and the Gang's "Jungle Boogie" which happens to be my one of my son's favorite songs at the moment mainly because he can get his momma to make the silliest faces in the car when it comes up on the playlist.

But yes, I do like music that has that unrestrained feel to it.

Anyhow, off to work and I'll try to catch up on the rest of the thread later this afternoon.

Oh, on that religion thread ... I poked my head in long enough to get dizzy and quietly backed right back out again.

Morning ..

Been rather busy helping the son of one of my former troops who is having bit of rough time at present ..

Which ends up being a rather difficult situation to resolve .. namely his wife ran off with her boyfriend taking his daughter with her which hit him hard as he has no other family. He has tried resolving the situation in a civilized manner but the woman refuses to communicate .
Which leaves me and him puzzled as to how to resolve the situation.
He found out when filed police report on the woman that this the second time she cheated a husband and ran off.

The episode has left him severely depressed to the point am keeping close eye on him to make sure he doesnt do anything stupid ..

Any ideas on how to get someone to communicate who absolutely refuses to ? as am at a loss on it ..

Meh .. time for another drink ..

Good morning everyone.

Definitely need coffee stumbles to the bar.

That's a tough one, domestic issues usually are. If the women is a danger to the child maybe the cops can remove the child. The wife certainly sounds kind of whacked.

Good afternoon (mumble, mumble, mumble), tough night. EOMS, if you have just another spot of tea available, I think that's a great way to ease into the day. (I need to ease in, Wednesday nights are always tough for me here.)

You think I'm too analytical, perhaps? If you want I can link you to a couple of my rants, or even a couple of humor threads. But you're right, I want to make sure I understand what people are saying and what it means. My background, I guess.

Say, Expat888, is that fellow you're trying to help in the US? If the kid is young enough, a kidnapping charge gets the feds interested, but I'm sure you know this already. As I said, I'm just getting the brain warmed up for the day.

It's awfully nice that you thought of stopping by, Brotherman Yeah, I'd be happy to sit with you. Now that I've finished the tea, I can move on to something my body can use for fuel.

It's sounds like the "stuff" you're going through isn't all that good. You've got some amazing people here you can call on, feel free.

And a very pleasant good afternoon to you, O flower of the Orient.

Would you mind if I mentioned you and your husband by your screen name tonight? I thought I would mention the hernandos. If you don't mind, thank you. I could use a little help, though. I don't know how to pronounce guohua. At the moment, I think of it as "Goo-O-Hwa," but I don't know.
