I wasn't sure if I should have put this in jokes or not but here's what is apparently a list of reasons why you may be committed to the funny farm back in the day. Funny though, there's one particular word that keeps popping up on the list

Time Of Life and Imaginary Female Trouble are my favorites...

It's a damned wonder every female didn't wind up in there at some point or another. And WTH is Gathering In the Head??

Those guys... Bunch of jokers.

Oh how pathetic. Glad we've come a little way since then. I'm just thinking of how language evolves though. 'Fell off his horse in the war' was perhaps a diagnosis but it was an expression that probably found its way into common parlance is my guess. My grandmother used to use the expression "he fell off his horse" instead of gesticulating by drawing an imaginary circle around her ear. By the time it got passed down to me, one expression I used is "that guy fell out of his tree."
And then there's the theme music from Twilight Zone that my kids hum.

How sad for the people of that time though.

Deranged Masturbation AND Suppressed Masturbation? I hate to even think how they determine the validity of those 'illnesses.'

You didn't answer the question about the source of the list.
I would guess that someone in modern times has gone through the records and extracted all these reasons.
In which case they may have been extracting subsidiary reasons which looked odd and ignoring more primary reasons.
A list made with an obvious agenda (proving that Victorians put people int asylums for bad reasons) may have to be taken with a pinch of salt.
