Yeah yeah I know. My phone was in my car. I was down by a river with a nice girl. We didn't have a chance.
Anyway here is what happened.
a white steady light, globular with no nav lights was travelling at about 300 miles an hour from the north southeast bound along the Delaware River. The Weather Baloon was silent and traveling out about an altitude of a thousand feet or less about quarter/half mile from our position. As it was about to cross the DelawareRiver into New York a jet, which was very easy to hear and had blinking beacon lights chased after the Chinese Lantern . As the jet closed within a quarter mile the Swamp Gas which was slightly larger than the jet in comparison dims out to nothing in a second or so and disappears.
the lady and I both saw and heard the same thing.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I live five minutes from the Delaware River on the NY side. I believe you and thankyou very much for saying right away no pics because your phone wasn't with you. Happens to people all the time and even when a phone is within reach the incident can be finished so quickly you don't have time to react or your phone doesn't load up in 1 second to take a shaky picture. What visual clues did you have for estimating the distance from you (or altitude), which would then be a factor in determining speed?

What I'm saying is that in my experience, it is difficult to gauge the distance to a "light in the sky" without anything else to go by other than that light.

For example, to me a bright steady landing light of an aircraft near t5he horizon at 7,000 feet altitude and moving 200 mph looks and moves very much like the light from the ISS near the horizon at 250 miles altitude and moving at 17,000 mph. The light itself is homogeneous and non-dimensional, which provides few clues as to how far it is from the observer.

I could tell because there was air traffic in front and behind the light which was was one reference. Also it was travelling along a ridge which was a known distance

But couldn't it have been higher in the sky, but still been traveling along the ridge from your point of view? I've seen satellites pass in a portion of the sky along a tree line, but that doesn't mean that the satellites are right above those trees (and I'm NOT saying you saw a satellite. That was just an example of how the path of an object from your vantage point does not necessarily tell you the height of the object).

Also, could the other aircraft just be there (and at a lower altitude) coincidental of the object -- which could have been higher? For example, if I saw two planes in the sky at the same time, those two planes could be at totally different altitudes, and their flight paths could have nothing to do with one another.

The light was the largest and brightest thing in the sky by many magnitudes. Except for the moon of course. The light was larger and brighter than the landing lights for a jumbo jet at a similar altitude
I would concede except that this whole airshow happened less than a mile away from us. From our vantage point it was fairly easy to tell closer aircraft from more distanced ones. The jet that chased after the lights followed its exact course.
the jet was so close that we could easily see its left and right nav lights and strobe

It could have been the ISS which had a pass in the area at 9.11 pm , it was also quite low which could have give the appearance of it moving along the ridge.

Sun Aug 17, 9:11 pm .. 3 min ... 23° ...15 above NNW .... 17 above ENE

I am NOT saying it's impossible. What I saw seemed to be much closer to me than something in orbit. Also I'm not sure the ISS could explain why it suddenly dimmed out when the jet approached

The first time I saw the ISS I thought it was in the atmosphere due to it's size and brightness , it could be the light you saw and the jet were an unrelated coincidence and the light was the ISS dimming out as it went into shadow.

It is not a joke. I saw exactly what I described. In light of the fact that the International Space Station Was near there around the same time I am open to the possibility of that.
It had a flat trajectory. Was about 7 or 8 times brighter and larger than Venus. It was headed south east.
Although the ISS Is close to fitting the bill It is off slightly

Question: What were the conditions on that night? Clear, cloudy? Because to be honest, I'm not buying the ISS theory. It may have been in the area but how coincidental is it that as soon as the jet approached it the thing blinked out. So what we seem to have here is either the ISS went behind a cloud the moment the jet approached it or that UFO said "Nope, we're going."

What kind of jet was it? I'm assuming military since it seemed to intercept the object.

Know anybody else who's seen it, particularly on that night?

I'm a local but I don't know if there's an airbase that would fit with the timeline of it approaching it at that exact moment. Any airbases that fit? Any training exercises in the area? Does that fit with training, maybe an intercept course? Have no military experience so I wouldn't know but decided to put it forward.

Did the jet slow or accelerate in any way (Hard to tell sometimes)?

I know areas like Port Jervis, Monticello have had UFO reports. Two years ago or so people reported weird red lights in the night sky near the train station. My personal opinion is that it's a UFO. Either occupied or not, it was without a doubt intelligently controlled in many aspects. Whether or not it "disappeared" in that instant as in it transported somewhere else, or the lights went out and it really burned rubber.

It vanished with the plane, so you know what it was. Either theirs or ours and if ours, it didn't want to be detected so maybe foreign nations black projects even. But there is a lot that isn't ours up there as well.

Cool sighting....you mean way bigger than the "orb" I saw north of DFW....it was doing about 400 mph right beside the departing route going N E from Dallas.
