the SA were the left wing element of the NSDAP (nazi party) but during the Night of the Long Knives the leader of the SA (Rohm) was killed thus
crippling the left wing element of the NSDAP.
Before and after the Night of the Long Knives the NSDAP was nationalistic (assocaited with right wing) and in favour of massive totalitarian changes
(extreme left and right).
The pre-night of the long knives Nazis were a weird extreme right wing party with a strong hint of socialistic values.
It is also commonly believed that if the night of the long knives had never took place then a SA would have taken power resulting in a freaky left
wing (not communist) extremist party.
