I dunno about this one.

A family member alerted me to this picture on Facebook which was taken by a family friend in Belize, Central America. Apparently, the family friend was taking a picture of the sunrise by the dock near the Princess Garden Hotel and Casino and the creepy image showed up.

Now, I know there are many iphone apps that can generate fake ghostly pics and superimpose them in regular pictures. I am not an expert in figuring out what is fake and what is not but maybe you folks on here can help identify if it is fake or real.

My family members swear the photographer is a genuine and upfront person, so take that for what it's worth.

Here is the pic in question. Focus at the end of the dock.

So ATSers, does this pic look remotely genuine?

No. It looks like a ghost from an app of some kind. Like this Ghost Prank App for Android:

I'm going to have to say no. The palette isn't consistent. Cool photo though, I'd love to be chillin there right now.

You can download this ghost in the AppStore

A lot of "ghost prank" apps can easily do this.

I was gonna say it kinda looks like something from one of those apps too, but does anyone have a link to the actual app so we can check for ourselves and dub this one "case closed"? Cause this "ghost" looks a llittle questionable to me. It's a little difficult to make out the face. The ghosts on those apps are usually a higher quality ghost so there's no question of what it is you're supposed to be looking at, like the ones posted above by the other poster.

I agree with you. Let's see the app in question and try to match it up with the image on the dock.

By the way, if you zoom the image it appears to look like the image of a female in a robe like dress.

Not sure if either the boats in the background or digital noise would extend or distend onto the deck.

I have my doubts that this was taken with an iPhone, unless it was a first-generation one. There's a heavy vertical-striped noise pattern which I have never seen on an iPhone image.

Also it's only at VGA resolution. Any chance of a full-size image? I suppose it could have been taken with the front camera, but why would you hold the phone that way round?

If you zoom in there's nothing to indicate a human-shaped object. And comparing the size of the boat, if it is a "ghost" then it's a lot bigger than a person.

A full-size image would be nice. There are a lot of artifacts in it that make it hard to see exactly what's going on.

well, I asked my source what type of device was used and it was confirmed an iphone. Not sure what model or version or iphone used, but definitely an iphone.

Not sure about a full sized image. I can ask around but no telling how far I will get with that.

Just to get a better idea of the surroundings, here is a photo taken from almost exactly the same spot in daylight.

The signs have been updated but you can see they are in the same places.

That's correct.

Now I am just waiting to see if anyone can send me an updated full sized image.

Most of the apps put in actual images of people though. If you zoom in on this image there is nothing human shaped, just a roughly rectangular white block. I'm not even sure why it is thought to be a ghost!

Zoom in. At the end of the dock looks like the pope offering benediction.

No,
it really does not.

Yep definitely a photoshopped image taken with the "face time" camera on the iphone. [640x480] It just doesn't have that genuine ghost pic feel.
