Polar-Eyes

The old prophet…followed his entourage…onto the stage…

5,000 … packed …

All there…to hear…what…the prophet…says…

Before walking in…he knew…who…was out there…
He had seen…the darkness…before…

…He knew…the darkness…

Taking his place…amid the fanfare…and revelry…he visibly inspects himself…getting…his bearing…

This visitor…distracts him…every time…since the first…twenty years…before…

He does not need…to find the visitor…in the crowd…
He closes his eyes…to erase the knowledge…but…knows it is futile…
His eyes open…settling on the only eyes in the place that can hold his…and they…are like…strong magnets…of the same polarity…

The prophet knows…the visitor…is growing more aware… …every time…their eyes connect…

The prophet knows…this will be the last time…their eyes meet…in this life…and seeks an answer…to what…to do…

He peers…intently…oblivious…to what is going on around…as if…the volume of his stare…might peel away the veneer (that he knows…is not there)…and reveal a harmless little…bunny…

But… …
He could not pierce it…when the visitor…was a pimple-faced youth…with little experience…and no understanding…of…this world…

He will not…peel it away…
If he could…he would not…

As time to do…what everyone came to see…approaches…
the old prophet…pulls his gaze away…from the visitor…and
speaks…to the
people…

The old prophet…is giving a very…old…message…

He changed his mind…stepping…from the chair…for
…as he began to move…a vision began to open…and
he knew…he must not
stop the meeting…or
the visitor…might leave…and
…this…vision…was
for…him

The faithful…and loyal ones…are lending their support
…to the old prophet…
seeing he is having difficulty…
delivering…the tired
old…
song…

The prophet looks out…through the…delirium
…still… speaking
…without…
thinking

He…stops…
Tilts…to his left…
and asks…
"What was that…?
Okay…
Okay…
I'll…do it…"

"I have seen…a great dragon…coming out of the sea
…and through…and out…of the lands…
Through your homes…toilets…beds
…under…your porches…where you have hidden
your first…secrets…
And I have seen one…that will fell
the beast…
and lay waste…to much…
you treasure…
Hold fast…to Love
…and you need not…fear…"

He…is visibly…weakened…and moves to lean against the podium
…where he simply says…
"Amen"
…and accepts assistance…
from the stage.
