That is a good question.

On the one hand you may emerge into a nightmare of roving gangs and war lords.

On the other hand, if you get away from all of that, it may be like coming outside after a storm. The air crisp and clean and all of the dirt washed away.

I just don't know, hardships build character. Perhaps a fresh start is what we need, I guess it depends on what sort of an apocalypse it is. Most of the human race are nice people, but they don't run the show.

If you want to start getting a preview of what it will be like in a SHTF scenario, watch a show called Life After People. It demonstrates what will happen to nuclear power plants, public sewage systems, water, power grids, all the little things we don't think about in our day to day lives, when there is no one left to maintain them. It's an eye opener.
