Just watched a boring trailer about some film coming out that most everyone is absolutely freaking out about. Looks like a chick flik.

variety.com...

Sex and some rich dude, Hasn't this been done like.. a thousand times before?

What makes FSG so appealing exactly?

Is the book that good? Other than it bordering porn I don't know much about it.

-Think I might stay away from this one..

thoughts?

My nieces swear up and down the only real chick flicks are made by Marvel; good looking men in fantastic costumes, and the women are all bad ass and don't whine.
I know at least 5 butts that aren't going to occupy any Shades of Grey seats.
I never met a worthwhile woman (or man for that matter) that read the book.

Because people are stupid?

I didn't read the book, an excerpt was enough for me to know it was chauvinistic drivel, and won't bother watching the movie.

Media hype is probably the answer to your question and escapist fantasies, though I don't understand how anyone could imagine such bedroom antics as either erotic or anything worth fantasising over.

Chicks are weird - basically.

Everybody hyped about a book about bondage. Wtf? How many of the readers practice S&M? Probably 5% or less..if that.

Based on the trailer however it seems the movie will be much more tame than the book. Still strange. I'm with you - won't be seeing that one.

Just women who feel the need for a man to sweep them up and save them.

I'm surprised more self-respecting women don't protest this movie. It's sexist garbage and so many women seem to eat it right up. The main draw is the bondage scenes (I'm talking about the book) which sort of follows the theme of being free from the burden of being free... which just feeds into that "save me" mentality that just places women back in kitchen, following the man around.

I don't have anything against kinky stuff but it's clearly used in these books to perpetuate the helpless willing victim mentality.

Critics have also said the writing is so terrible, it makes Twilight look like a masterpiece classic.

IMHO NB IMHO,
women like the fantasy but faced with the reality of the fantasy they run a mile.
men like the fantasy but are never faced with that fantasy, so give up.

Very controversial I know but I can only speak from experience.

Here's what I would tell my sons (the straight ones) :
Don't ever ever ever ever ever ever ever fall for the sex.No matter what they say. I would then take them out for a pint with my very very loyal friend kenny (loyal to both sexes) who would point to a pint and say : "that pint never answers me back".

I have always thought of my friend as a viking throwback but after 30 years.......he has NEVER been wrong on that subject!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

At the end of the day, I know I am human and the internet is my 50 shades of gray. I highly doubt that many other men or women for that fact say any differently. If you do, good for you. I really don't care. Nor do I care about this book/film. My wife read it and really wasn't all that thrilled with it...as a book/novel. Seemed to work as her version of internet porn though. And I got to be the "Mr. Grey" who IS real when the chapter ended!

If you ever look at the sales figures for books, you'd be horrified at the vast percentage of the market that is dominated by Books Sold To Horny Dis-Satisfied Housewives.

It's a huge market. Really, don't waste your time writing Sci-fi or Horror, you'll never make any money at all. Write romance novels.

Because lonely wives need something to do

The market is woman who are not getting any orgasms from there boyfriends or husbands. Notice how I did not say sex but orgasms. So these woman think the thrill of getting tied up and spanked a little will help.

I edited this post multiple times - I guess I'm just down to saying what we already know and no comment on the book or the movie.

The hype is manufactured... isn't that what Hollywood tries to do? Attempt to tell you what you want and you are supposed to want it. Works on some.

I think I'll pass on that one. All the bondage and spanking stuff is not a turn on for me. Neither are women who are into it. I like the warm, cuddly, kissy stuff. Call me weird.

It's just drivel for horny housewives that have never read a real book.

I love to read and kept hearing all of the hype about this book. It was on the headline news more than once! I checked out a free sample download and didn't even finish that. Not for me. I know that may shock all of those who are saying it's for housewives. I am one. I stay at home as well. The writing left much to be desired (no pun intended).

Give me my Stephen King genre any day over whatever this was supposed to be.

My favorite would have to be between Rose Madder and The Dark Half. I am currently reading The Talisman. They really ruined the movie for The Dark Half. I can't imagine how many people will not read the book because the movie was so awful. Tons, I suppose.

The movies never do his books justice though so that isn't anything new. I've never seen a horror movie that remotely scared me, but I have read many of his books that had me as jumpy as a cat on a hot tin roof. He writes in a way that makes it seem as though a movie is playing in my head. The detail he uses is amazing.

I have not read The Apt Pupil. That may be one I will have to pick up and read after I finish The Talisman. I like it a lot so far.

It may be for housewives, but I personally could see a lot of younger girls wanting to see it. Mayne not in the theater because they ask for ID. I could see a lot of younger people wanting to see it because of the edginess & shock value and wanting to act like adults and act more mature and experienced than they are. Then when some of these young girls are mistreated horribly, their friends will just say "well yeah that's normal, haven't you seen that movie, everybody's doing it, it's hot" etc... When the fact is this sort of thing is generally for married couples who know each other very well and know what is crossing the line and what is invited and whatnot and not for casual encounters unless maybe you met that person at a special club or listed their interests online before meeting or something. But I kinda see this being used as an excuse to mistreat females who don't know any better and just want to be a good girlfriend who can keep a man around. I hope I'm wrong. I haven't read the book, I'm just going by what I've heard and read online. So hopefully I'm just blowing things out of proportion, like I tend to do when I go into protective mode.

I was shocked at first whent he twighlight fan fiction turned into "A Best Seller"
In all my travels not once did I see someone actually reading it.
Yet they would talk about how great it was. When I would ask if they read it
"oh no but a friend of mine did I trust their opinion"

Now it's a movie, kudos tot he author for making it ( book into movie )
not reading it nor watching it.

I would rather watch Daft Punk unplugged for 2hrs.

As to young girls seeing this. I see your point of view. But that is a issue between parents and their children.

Now to the way guys look at woman. It has already had an affect. Since this book came out and this BDSM romance genre has exploded. These types of books are best sellers now. Outselling everything else. Men who mostly have not read the book and just hear about it have confused being dominant with having a woman be your absolute sex slave. Being dominant simply means having a woman trust you enough because she knows you respect her, for you to take control in the bed room. Most woman like this. But guys now think being dominant means a woman has to do every little crazy sex thing there heads can come up with and can not say no. Just go on craiglist and take a gander at the personals section for laughs and giggles.
