We are happy and honored to announce that Edward Snowden will be participating in the HOPE conference via a two-way video link. Between Snowden, Daniel Ellsberg, and Thomas Drake, we will have three of the world's most renowned whistleblowers speaking at this year's conference, in addition to well over 100 other speakers.

It was because of the mutual admiration between Ellsberg and Snowden that this special event was put together. Having these two people who have profoundly changed the history and direction of this country participating in a discussion is an occasion we will all be privileged to witness.

EDWARD SNOWDEN TO SPEAK AT HOPE X

The organizers of this years 'Hackers On Planet Earth' conference had to keep the lid on their plan to have Snowden participate to prevent government sabotage and censorship.

We had to keep this bombshell quiet til the last minute since some of the most powerful people in the world would prefer that it never take place. (Even at this stage, we wouldn’t be surprised at mysterious service outages, but we believe the hacker spirit will trump the unprecedented might of the world’s surveillance powers. Fingers crossed.)

The conversation between the two historic whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Daniel Ellsberg took place in New York on July 19th 2014. Video streams are now available of those presentations, as well as the entire proceedings of the H.O.P.E. X conference.

Daniel Ellsberg has been an inspiration to Edward Snowden and Ellsberg himself has expressed his admiration of Snowden’s actions in releasing information revealing the extent of NSA’s spying on civilians around the globe, including within the United States. Ellsberg changed the conversation in the height of the Vietnam War through the Pentagon Papers – by revealing deceptive practices by the government. Snowden has also dramatically changed the conversation on surveillance and intelligence-gathering with his revelations.

We’re honored and proud to have HOPE be the forum via which these two American heroes converse. Snowden is, of course, still unable to leave Russia because of the threat he faces from the authorities in the United States. So he will be joining us and speaking on a video link right after Daniel Ellsberg’s keynote.

Don't you think it is ironic that Snowden is now living in Russia which has very restricted freedom of speech, debate and Putin behaving like an old school Soviet dictator, totally what he whistle-blowing about in the first place! I would like Snowden to comment on events surround MH17 being blown out of the sky. I want to know who he thinks is responsible and whether or not he is appalled that the bodies have been dragged around and looted.

History will tell if Snowden backed the right horse or not! I think he made a huge mistake defecting to Russia. He should have gone to South America really.

Why would he have any insider info about mh17??

Not like him and putin sit down every night and have nightly debriefings where putin tells him all the juicy secrets of the events going on

the new & improved "project camelot" really seems to have its act together

a reply to: Sremmos80 I never said he had insider information on MH17. I just wanted to know what his thoughts were. That is an entirely different thing. And as a spook who knows far more than any of us about the way things are done behind closed doors, he surely must have an informed educated guess on who did what when and how and why!!

Really? Russia has very restricted freedom of speech? the majority of the Russians would disagree with you. On that.

I would like Snowden to comment on events surround MH17

Where is the evidence that Russia did it? all i heard is nothing from the news media expect finger pointing.

He should have gone to South America really.
Really? why would Snowden defect to South America judging that the majority of the South Americans nations would easily hand over Snowden to the American Government?

*ahem* Excuse me?! hahahaha

Project Camelot?! Do you really know what is going on? I'm sorry. I am just kidding.

This is from a hacker conference that has been going on since 1994. It has nothing to do with Project Camelot...

H.O.P.E. stands for Hackers On Planet Earth, one of the most creative and diverse hacker events in the world. It's been happening since 1994.

In the past we've had huge hackerspace villages, film festivals, Segway rides, lock picking villages, a wide variety of vendors, art installations, live video, vintage computers, robots, an amateur/ham radio station, electronics workshops, book signings, and the country's biggest supply of Club-Mate.

Now imagine all of that happening right in the middle of New York City, across the street from Penn Station and down the block from the Empire State Building. It seems impossible, but with the hard work and dedication of our huge volunteer staff, we're able to pull it off.

Does he have a choice? Wasn't he on his way elsewhere? There may well be a certain irony regarding Snowden's location but didn't he have the ticket to continue the journey only to become stranded because his passport was revoked?

Snowden Calls Russian-Spy Story “Absurd” in Exclusive Interview

From Moscow, Snowden explained that “Russia was never intended” to be his place of asylum, but he “was stopped en route.” He said, “I was only transiting through Russia. I was ticketed for onward travel via Havana—a planeload of reporters documented the seat I was supposed to be in—but the State Department decided they wanted me in Moscow, and cancelled my passport.”

Perhaps it's worth considering the timing. Just why he was left stranded there of all places? Seeing as Russia appears perhaps the very last place the US could effectively exert political pressure for extradition and taking into consideration the sensitive nature of the matter it would appear reasonable to wonder if the US wouldn't have preferred him some place other than within the clutches of the old enemy. Perhaps anywhere else. If that's the case though why time things so that the treacherous Snowden becomes stranded in the land of that most infamous US adversary?

Interesting thoughts. It would not be the first blunder this administration made though. I think it was simply a mistake made by an inexperienced leader who simply is not very good at the game when he isn't allowed to hold all the Aces.

I found it interesting that during that very long interview/conversation between Snowdan and Ellsberg is that they seemed to have focused on the META data aspect and how it violates our constitution. I think the key point was missed entirely. Meaning, its not about them collecting my data that concerns me, its about collecting data on constitutional lawyers and judges who may come down against a government project. Well now anyone of the lawyers and judges can be blackmailed easily.

No discussion on how it works as a form of social engineering....

For it being an activist forum, it was very soft porn'ish.

I have not been able to go through the archive yet, but just beneath the Snowden/Ellsberg video is the actual keynote address given by Daniel Ellsberg. Supposedly Snowden came back for a more full presentation of his own which may be appended to Ellsberg's address. I assume that is where the better information might be...

I think you already taught me that the H.O.P.E. conference with Snowden and friends was something along the lines of "controlled opposition". As for the building war in the East and ISIS and the connection to Cryptome's 'attempt' to avert this, you are probably right that it just is what it is and somehow needs to happen.

I honestly never stick to any one side on issues such as this. I am merely just an obsessive multimedia nut who tries to keep my ear to the ground to figure out what is going on in the world. I am not saying I am ever that successful, but at least I try! hahahah

I am open to all points of view and can understand what motivates people. I sit on the fence in a grey area... Please tell me more about your thoughts on the matter, I like to learn from people who actually know what is going on!

what they (the devil people) are continually trying to do is erode various foundations
i've had to smash down my foundation dozens of times in the past
have left dozens of links here at ATS & made a few topics (some are decent)
go through them at your leisure they lead to other peoples topics, which lead to other peoples topics

take your time & build your foundation slowly

you will have noticed what is happening is happening on a global scale
there isn't much one can ever do about that (in a physical sense)
save your soul

Days of Future Past

Charles Xavier (broken) past confronts Charles Xavier (broken) future

Charles past: So this is what becomes of us? Eric was right. Humanity does this to us.
Charles future: Not if we show them a better path.
Charles past: You still believe?
Charles future: Just because somebody stumbles, loses their way, doesn't mean they are lost forever. Sometimes we all need a little help...
Charles past: Well I'm not the man I was. I open my mind and it almost overwhelms me.
Charles future: You're afraid... and Cerebro knows it.
Charles past: All those voices. So much pain!
Charles future: It's not their pain you're afraid of - it's yours, Charles. And as frightening as it might be, their pain will make you stronger. If you allow yourself to feel it - embrace it - it will make you more powerful than you ever imagined. It's the greatest gift we have - to bear their pain without breaking. And it's born from the most human power: Hope. Please, Charles, we need you to hope again.

The issue of our privacy rights is just one layer of the onion. It's actually the dried outer skin IMO. The issue is the social engineering aspect. We have become numbers in an equation no different than the economy. And like the economy we can be manipulated by measuring shock tests...."stress" tests.

What chance do constitutional lawyers have fighting an unjust government, when that government is violating the rights of the lawyer defending your constitutional rights? I haven't looked through the archives but I doubt they bother to address these points. If they do, it's buried anyway.

Its great this understanding of government over-reach is in the public but this is a marathon not a sprint. Its time for Snowdan to pass the baton and for us to address the real crux of the issue.
