I don't know. Look how long they kept the Greenbriar a secret. Somehow in spite of their incompetence on so many levels, the do manage to keep some secrets.

For Greenbriar, they had a good reason - self-preservation.

No reason at all to suppress any alien stuff. None that's logical, anyway. Plenty of reasons if one insists on some far-reaching and overarching conspiracy encompassing all the governments of the entire Earth.
