Senate Democrats Propose Law to Force Christians to Pay for Abortion Drugs

In an obvious "sour grapes" knee-jerk hyper response to the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court decision last week, Democrats in the U.S. Senate are proposing yet another crusade against the 1st Amendment.

They display their true colors by demanding that abortion drugs be "forcibly paid for" by everybody if I read this correctly.

HHS has already discriminated by "allowing" non profit organizations to be exempt while forcing all others to be included but separated by religion.

The Supreme Court partly disagreed by "allowing" closely held companies to be exempted from at least the "contraceptives" listed by the FDA.

Very dangerous when we see the absolute mania displayed since last week.

Big can of worms.

I wonder how religious Democrats feel and how many will be "alienated" by this wild action ?

On Wednesday, Senate Democrats introduced a bill that would force Christians and other conscientious objectors to pay for drugs and devices, including the "week-after" pill, that may kill human embryos.

The new bill was drafted in response to Supreme Court's ruling last week that Obamacare's so-called contraceptive mandate as applied to family-owned religious businesses was a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Democrats' legislation would strip away the religious freedom law's protections for Americans who provide health benefits to their employees.

The text of the bill states that an employer-sponsored health insurance plan shall not exclude coverage of any item or service "where the coverage of such item or service is required under any provision of Federal law or the regulations promulgated thereunder" and that the new law would "apply notwithstanding any other provision of Federal law, including Public Law 103–141 [the Religious Freedom Restoration Act]."

I was under the impression that ALL legislation has to originate in the HOUSE.

Guess the Senate didn't get the memo, or ever read that GD piece of paper.

Considering that Hobby Lobby provides 16 out of 20 the Democrats look like sore losers.

That bill deserves the same thing the SCOTUS dished out the other day.

Democrats lost.

They need to get over it.

Here's a little lesson on How a Bill becomes a Law

Laws may be initiated in either chamber of Congress, the House of Representatives or the Senate.

Maybe YOU didn't get the memo...

This is what happens when socialist loose a fight, they flail about on the ground like a child having a tantrum because it did not get what it wanted.

During this process they don't care who they hurt or alienate.

Isn't it fascinating when these people are so willing to show everyone how childish and pathetic they are while demanding you pay for there sex life...again,you can't make this stuff up.

I am glad for this, I was forced to pay for the two trillion dollar wars that the Christian Right supported as they locked stepped with Bush. I guess they only care about killing when the person does not have a name.

Although there is the small matter of all of Obamacare having been declared a tax when it is a Bill the originated in the Senate. Technically, that should make the whole kit and caboodle unconstitutional since only the House has the power to originate tax law.

You want to go there? But it's good that you understand that an abortion is a murder.

And in every insurance policy I've ever heard of, once they go from being contraception to necessary medication, they get paid for no matter what. In other words, they stop being contraception and become medication. There is a difference. One is elective and the other is not.

Why is it that everyone complains about "Paying for women's sex life" or something to that effect but those same people never bi*tch about "Paying for men's sex life"??? The ACA pays for Erectile dysfunction drugs, Vacuum erection devices, Penile implants, Vasectomies and Circumcision.

While I personally have no problem with them covering those for men nor a problem with them covering contraceptives for women either, I still think there is a bit of a double standard here. Anyone else see it too??

Its much worse than it may appear. These folks are pathological. In reality their dream is to someday see christians on their knees being forced to eat their bible. They wish to force some to violate what they hold dear.

And how is that different forcing me to 'pay' trillions to feed, and educate, and cloth, and house millions of people?

At least the right waits til people get out of the womb.

More people have been killed by abortion than the last decade of war.

But i guess that doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of pushing demagogic bubbles about the right.

Even more so supporting corporate fascism with the state MANDATED big pharmaceuticals called abortion pills.

It's not hard to figure out IMO. Elections are coming and both sides are authoring things they know will not pass for purely political purposes.

It's all about keeping people at each others throats and sadly people belong to Parties and buy into it. When will people learn? Never I suppose. I'd imagine this has been how the game has been played since the government was the tribe witch doctor. Oooo, don't talk to that other tribe, they have demon cooties

Compromise is the sign of true leadership and rationality. Not much of that these days.

Why do you think people say the GOP has a war on women? No one bats an eye for paying for men's sexual health needs, but according to the GOP, women are just not worth it, I guess.

I think it is funnier when Neoconfederates flail around and try to defund Obamacare 50 times. Although my favorite is when the GOP destroyed the US credit rating with their tantrum... But, maybe the way the GOP attempts to impeach every Democratic president should take the cake. They can't cooperate or work together so they do their best to circumvent the constitution so they can get their way, I mean their corporate sponsors way.

Watch out or they'll impeach you
