I searched this topic on ATS but didn't find any reports about it.

From CBS News in New York:

As CBS 2’s Sonia Rincon reported, the concern is that al Qaeda in Yemen is developing a bomb that could get around traditional airport security outside of the U.S.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued an alert Wednesday night, just two days before the Fourth of July.

It's summer travel season and it goes without saying that passing through security these days is the worst experience no matter what country you're in. Now, it looks like things could get slightly worse.

Maloney said security overseas will focus on finding potential nonmetallic explosives that might go undetected.

How will screeners deal with this? I normally don't carry my luggage on board but my backpack is usually stuffed with stuff of all kinds. Does this mean there will be more hand searching of carry-ons? There's always the pat-down.

Megan Demartinis remembered a little extra attention from screeners in London. “Like, a really extensive pat-down; very thorough,” Demartinis said. “They definitely photographed us. I had to take my glasses off, and my scarf. It was, you know — they had to match us up with our passport photos,” said traveler Samara Bay.

In an odd sort of way, after reading the paragraph about al-Qaida developing a "new" bomb, it kind of reads like a story about Apple or Google rumored to come out with some new whiz-bang gadget. Unfortunately, al-Qaida isn't doing R&D to improve our lives but rather to destroy it.

I'm sure there are some that are going to say this is some kind of U.S. conspiracy or false flag but I'm not going to complain about the tighter screening. I believe this is real and I'd rather get to the airport a little bit earlier and go through the process than have someone or something slip through the net.

This isn't new, the concealment of a bomb inside of a person has been around for a long time, just not a living person until rather recently.

Just an excuse to scare the sheep into letting them take blood and do full body x-rays in order to travel by air.

Why is it that airlines have such a problem staying in business?, maybe to get us to drive more?.

Just us Chikkins....

Eat more Chikkin....

I honestly can't believe that people still fly.

You subject yourself to tighter security, but the odds of a highjacking are astronomical.

Remember the old saying about sacrificing security over freedom?

You are falling for the doom porn and the officials are eating it up.

Good luck with that. If someone wants to do something terrible, they will, no matter how much groping and screeningtheysubject you to.

In lieu of any real terror acts, they are reduced to fabricating them for our fear taste buds.

Box cutter terror, shoe bomb terror, underwear terror.

Now its dun, dun, dun, dunnn…

gastro intestinal terror.

New airline policy, everyone must submit the contents of their stomach and bowels for inspection before flying the friendly skies.

Barf bags and laxatives will be issued 8 hours prior to boarding.

Have a nice flight.

Yup, I know that one very well. At the same time, I'm forced to make some sacrifices to stay out of harm's way on a daily basis. If I have to drive through the worst neighborhoods to get where I want to go, I don't stop just because I'm hungry or have to pee.

And you're right, if someone wants to do something terrible, they will find a way. But, as far as air travel goes, I'd rather make it as difficult for them as possible.

I hate to fly, everything about it with the exception of actually taking off, sucks.

The security, the recycled dry air, the noise, the tiny seats you pay a fortune for the pleasure of sitting in, the list goes on.

When push comes to shove, these new bombs wont change anything, security is there for a preventative threat - if somone really wants to bomb flight X then they will work out some way to make it happen. Thats just the way it is.

New bomb type that gets past certain security counter measures? Sorry but im going to wait till its a real problem before i add it to the list of reasons i dont like/want to fly.

How often does a terror attack happen on a flight? How often do i fly? Chances of being caught i a terror attack is so slim getting hit by lightning is 100 times more likely.

It is all security theatre.Make it difficult to get aboard a plane? The terrorists can just attack the security screening area where everyone is forced to wait in line.Pre-screen before the airport, another point of vulnerability. There will never be complete security until there is complete control of individuals all over the world.
Instead of screening potential miscreants this Government will continue with the one size fits all puppet show until the Airlines are forced into chapter 11 and be bailed out.Pure idiocy while our borders are wide open.

I know that sometimes news travel slow... but... someone has to tell those guys in yemen that alqaeda evolved into ISIS and is no longer a terrorist organization... it is now a jihadist military organized active group.

Some has to send them an e-pigeon or something.

sounds like a pro AQ Ad campaign to me...

making AQ sound like It is not curled up in the fetal position after getting out gunned, out flanked, out schemed by the ISIL=ISIS Jihadists in Syria and in Iraq

sheeze just up to 3 months ago AQ, according to Barry Obama was that AQ is in tatters & in massive decline all over the globe...which is how Benghazi got sanitized

perhaps the administration is taking a replay from the old neocon playbook and making AQ the boogy-man again that is behind every tree or darkened doorway, ready to pounce on any innocent victim it sees

gee, the MSM sure is on-top of the terrorist R&D rumors before any devices even hit the street, --> amazing

The thing that gets me about this "bomb scare on a plane" story, every time it is wheeled out is this:
I think to myself-what would a terrorist do if it really wanted to cause chaos?

Would they go for a hard target like an airport/plane with all that security,or would they choose something much easier, and with less security to get past?

The whole plane bomb scenario may be clever "false chatter" from dodgy extremist mofos, while they attempt to do something completley different.

That is what is scary, and must be one heck of a stressful headache for the security services I bet.

Oh and BTW,I don't buy for one nanosecond that ISIS and AQ are competing with each other-Remember AQ wanted a Caliphate years back-they will be secretly patting each other on the back(or whatever it is they do),whilst projecting the image of being at odds with each other to the media...
All part of their deceitful ways.

Never underestimate your enemy.

I don't think its a false flag. Stay safe, don't fly. If you must, use a connecting flight out of Mexico City or Montreal.

They're not terrorists anymore! You can fly all you want... this is a whole different ball game.

I'm still amazed how people havent figured it out yet... seriously. All terrorism has been eliminated... theres no terrorist threat anymore! The "thing" has evolved... seriously... no matter if... ok I'll shut up now.

I sincerely doubt the Yemeni bomb-makers are any better than our (U.S.) bomb makers. We obviously trained some of these people who, in turn, trained others. We got nukes....everyone knows we make the best bombs!

The problem with putting a bomb inside a person is that a person is full of water - this has a tendency to dampen an explosion.

Recently, a Saudi Minister was a target of a suicide bomber with a weapon concealed inside his body cavity - the chap exploded, as planned, but the minister who was shaking his hand at the time escaped relatively unscathed, except for a fine coating of a new shade called "Hint of Jihadi" (its like pink, but lumpier)

EDIT: Mu point being, doing a similar thing on a plane might just end up making a bit of a mess and not endanger the aircraft at all - unless it was big enough, but that raises problems with having it implanted in you in the first place. There is only so much space inside a person that you can carry something like a bomb.

That is the event I was referring to...

I look at it more as an opportunity for some types of businesses to harvest information than anything else by scaring people into sharing it, or forcing the sharing of it to fly at all.

There is always more than one reason for everything from what I have observed.

Sneaky information-gathering Chikkins.

So, they're trying to design a new bomb to avoid detection? I could have sworn I heard this a few years back, too. Deja vu or something, I guess.

But if they want to do that, I'd imagine they'd just abduct someone we all hate, like Roseanne or Justin Bieber, and keep them on an all-beans diet. Either way, passengers will be tortured to death before the bending over with a match happens.

Do any of you remember the TSA ads in england about exploding boobs? All it would take is a plastic surgeon to give a jihadist breast implants filled with Binary explosives/silicone implants. The second part of the explosive would be carried in something like a lotion bottle or something OR in a Epi pen that the terrorist could then stick in her/his implants and therefore mix the two chemicals and exploding a short time later

Alot of this binary stuff is clear as silocone.
