Pretty much sums it up


But thats been pretty much the pattern of ALL superpowers.

The British empire wasn't formed deliberately but by accident as the UK bumbled from one continent to another to "try and fix things" and gain resources.

USA is doing the same.

The next super power will do the exact same thing.

They weren't bumbling around so much as exploring the world for resources. Every government had copies of the maps of the "known world" with vast areas declared as "here be monsters" since the mapmakers didn't have any information on those areas. Given that the known parts of the world were rich in resources, the unknown parts were likely to be even richer. Therefore, the minute they found something, they set up a country with government offices, courts, lawyers and transportation links.


So you had the English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Germans all over the w

In some cases it was deliberate but India and in some parts of Africa is was more a case of the UK was sucked into sorting some dispute or threat out and then staying permanently.
