It might have been 15 years ago, but at the time the Republicans were getting the Whitehouse rewired so that they could have communication systems that conformed to the public office standards that government property should not be used for party business. So they ended up having two networks; one for public office duties, and the other for party business. Everything used by the government was logged and backed up for FOI requests.

Strange how a "computer crash" could delete data that is supposed to be backed up by RAID (redundant arrays of inexpensive disks). Next thing they will be telling us they can't find working disk drive as the backups are on 3.5" floppy disks.

If the IRS can conveniently "lose" emails when they are being investigated ...

SUSPECT-KEYWORDS: "they are being investigated".

SPECULATIVE-QUESTION: How Skeer'd is Mr. Holder ???

( i.e. Mr. Comey's F.B.I. might just be doing their jobs )

BECAUSE

OPINION: Mr. Comey really, really, needs to redeem himself.

Hello? Obama supporters? Care to weigh in?
They'll be along soon.

They're waiting for the instructional memo and video.

"Convenient: IRS Has 'Lost' Two Years of Lois Lerner's Emails"

This is what happens when we get a bureaucracy completely infiltrated by ultra-Left Wing operatives and NGO influences.

The entire Executive Branch is compromised.

The bad news?

I scoured the liberal websites and could not find a single story about this.

The good news?

I found out where the lefties get their stories.

If they can pull data from ruined hard drives, even that data that is removed, how hard would it be for an expert to pull and reconstruct said data?

Two pages in....and not a single Obama defender. Surely they would have received their talking points on this by now.
Maybe, even they smell a rat.

I'm sure they will be here soon with the usual "But.. But... Bush did wrong things too..."

Don't "over think" this.

It's being hidden and withheld on purpose.

This is how they operate under pressure, especially when they're guilty and in panic mode.

People could end up in prison because of the whole IRS debacle.

No way they go down without every attempt to wiggle and squirm out.

The IRS’ computer crash may go down in history next to the eighteen and a half minute gap in the Watergate tapes, which was supposedly caused by a mistake by Richard Nixon’s secretary Rose Mary Woods.

Ditto.

I am reading this just after hearing Obama today, suggest that the conflict in Iraq was due to non-inclusiveness. Not only did he say this but said it as though it was understandable seeing some folks were kept out of the process. And so.....you want our what?

(Forgive me.. I couldn't resist - See below)

Okay.... So the sender's side was lost. Did they ever consider Email is a TWO sided effort and regulations to retain such email may just apply to BOTH sides which a person like this may have been communicating with?

Kinda sucks...now having to go get court orders for everyone she likely emailed, since I am sure 'she knows nothing', but hell... Blame it on the computer crash and get busy, I say. Get right down to the office level MACHINES she sent to and THEIR backups. "The dog ate my email" doesn't cut it in my book.

There's no reason I can see for at least a % not being recoverable by the other end unless all was REMOVED deliberately.

Oh, of course... They've already broken a bunch of laws, so why not add a few more to the list with the destroying of evidence. If they are caught they are going away, this is a great attempt at getting off going away, but they are essentially telling the public they are guilty right now and this is the only hand they had left to play.

This story had three different ways of being played out...

Leave evidence = Go to jail

Destroy evidence = Get caught, go to jail a little bit longer, but during plea deal the charge will likely be dropped

Destroy evidence = Get away, even though everyone knows what they did

The IRS backs up their stuff.

We hear this on Friday ?

Typical...Right out of the Chicago Playbook.

Rahm must be in town to handle this pesky matter.

Thanks for the most pertinent and unlucky break for this
Friday the 13th. I can't tell you what the chance is of a
backup system totally failing within 24 hours of required
response.. except "The cat's got it." Michael Palin

This infrastructure is undoubtedly going to get a pass
from the cheesiest answer since Tom Edison's copper
foil hung up on the needle, and the bail was wearing a
wad of garbage.

I'll buy that inventor's bad luck--
but we're talking now about a very mature technology,
that people at even home can use to a level of backup
resembling 70x7. Jesus help us...

If you'll remember the tall one's final response in that
Python vignette, it approaches mine. Enough said...

except the backbone dropped out for almost an hour
in the Midwest, due to quite probably a coronal injec-
tion event a lot bigger than the stones it took to pull
out this excuse. I didn't hear yet from anyone around
here who lost anything, Lois. Have you tried an eye
shadow that doesn't clash with orange? Experiment NOW

Between backups and the NSA, they don't exist? Not buying it. Isn't there a fairly long retention time for government email also. A coverup as big as a barn. Someone gets fired, nope, a promotion.

No, Rahm is too busy dealing with IMPORTANT things here in Chicago like arguing with Donald Trump over his 20 ft sign on his building... You know your city is screwed when your mayor is busy arguing over a sign while we have crazy shootings daily within this city...

But it is not over thinking. Look at any crime that is committed via the internet/computer. The criminal eliminates the data, and then they call out the experts. There you go, instant restoration of said data that has been removed, and gee they can even make out pictures, and other data that was on the hard drive, past emails, the whole shabang. So I think that if they can call up data and emails that have been deleted, they should be able to restore the hard drive and call up past emails.
