But there isn't a "bendy rod". Just an irregularly shaped rock. As much as I squint and cross my eyes I cannot see a "rod" or anything remotely "rod shaped". Can anybody help me out here?

bendy rods,question marks- i think you can only see straight lines. Blister turned it purple on page 2
