The Wait
Softly, the rain falls down,
Silently, the night presides.
Slowly, the moon grows full,
Sadly, you still haven't arrived.
Promptly, the stars come out,
Perfectly, the crickets sing.
Presently, I sit on the porch,
Patiently, I wait listening.
Eerily, the frogs join in song,
Expertly singing a symphony.
Eagerly, I watch for you,
Eventually, you'll come to me.
Faintly, a soft breeze blows,
Freely wandering through the night.
Fretfully, I pace back and forth,
Foolishly waiting until first light.
Directly, the crickets and frogs,
Dutifully end their serenade.
Drearily, the night grows long,
Dismally, my hope slowly fades.
Gradually, the night turns to day,
Graciously ending my wait for you.
Grudgingly, I give up on us,
Gingerly, I start my life anew.
Thanks,
