A review of international media coverage reveals that, in general, the US press, as in this instance, focuses on battle tactics and keeps score of US casualties, while elsewhere in the world the press is emphasizing the human costs of the war.

Outside the US, media are reporting far more details about the impact of war on Iraqi civilians, calling what has happened in Fallujah a human disaster.

baltimorechronicle.com...

The US media are clearly distorting the truth about the war in Iraq. I thought the US had a free press ? Or isnt it that free anymore ? What happened to the champion of democracy and freedom ?

well that's pretty obvious.

basically you knew how ugly it was and would continue to be when our government refused to account civilian casualities and didn't allow us to see the sight of soldiers returning home in flag draped coffins.

if people were to actually see this on a daily basis, their opinions on a war far far away would probably change.

Yawn. Link a paper with some credibility.

I'm no fan of Bush's policies, but this is as bad as using Newsmax to attack Clinton.

I think that we must remember that the 'Media' is a business. Most Americans just don't like to hear 'anti-American' sentiments. This is the most highly scrutinized war ever I think that the coverage is pretty much what I would expect from the US media. Of course the foreign media is going to have a much harder slant to the civilian damage than US media The foreign media will publish what will best sell on the their streets just like the US media will publish what best sells in the US.

Propaganda has been used ever since newspapers have been printed. During world war I, all that ever appeared in the news was how well 'our' side was doing and how badly 'their' side was doing.
Both the British and German news ignored the fact that thousands of their own troops were dying.

Then during the second world war, the same happened. In fact even when Hitler was obviously losing the war and his soldiers were on half rations the German newspapers continued to say how well they were doing.

Its the same now, although I would have expected better from the US and UK.

Personally, as an American, I do not want to know the inflated civilian death counts, just as much as I do not wants to hear how many Us soldiers died for their ideals and belief in their country.

and I am positive that the Islamic media states they kill 200 infidels with the sword of god a day so
, so lets not talk about unbiased media. Like stated, this is called 'war propoganda'.

And, somehow you know that the bias isn't against the U.S.?

Since the beginning of talks about routing Hussein, the world has been biased against us. Since the election of this president, the mainstream media has been biased against everything. The U.S. mainstream media can't WAIT to relay a story to us that puts the U.S., its military or its president in bad light.

The rest of the world loves hating us, we don't, therefore there is only so much B.S. our media can get away with.

LOL! I think my new avatar says it all!

Dog will be back later. I'm just letting him out to chase the local cats up a few trees. He's also had his eye on a poodle down the street.

That's not quite true, at least not for the european media. They never really turned anti-US. They just busted the lies of the administration in real time while the american press didnt dare to question Mr. Bush's convictions and 'intelligence'.

Not really anti-US, but anti-Bush. Very irrationally. Everything he does is wrong. He has become the focal point for all the wrongs in the world. Public opinion is very volatile. Often in domestic politics the same phenomenon happens. The media picks someone to bash, and the people follows along. In Europe politics is a closed world, filled with privileged career bureaucrats who rely on the media to provide them with the ideas they lack.

It's hard not too expect this kind of media in wartime. Although, maybe it can show us something? It's not an overly natural thing for them to use powerful brainwashing techniques (save commercialism). maybe someone a little wiser then me can analyze this for me. The worse the propaganda, the more convulted and "wrong" the warfare right? .. It's not really to the point of extreme lies yet. Wait, it is? Ah, crap.

media perhaps, but news? news has a responsibiltie to the people to bring about the most direct and unbias information. our news does nothing but distort the natural order of things to back up the political agenda, politcal spin if you will. they march through fallujah with the headlines house of horror as the walk through absolutely wreched cooridoors of filfth no one in america has any idea of how poor off these people are, and yet they still hold them to no standard and only as inhumane monsters, intent on eating you and your children. they show us what THEY want us to see, and nothing else.

There is no such thing as freedom of the press anymore. The elite who control the government control the media. That's why I go to alternative news sites.

Well not to get off the subject, but I will. Thomas Crowne I hope you weren't serious about the dog getting the cats. I'm a dog lover, but I like cats to. So if what you said was true I hope the cats kick your dogs a...... If not nevermind. As far as the topic goes you can't trust any media to me it's almost always biased one way or the other. Especially the main stream media. I think sometimes to get the real truth you have to be there to see it with you own eyes.

Please explain what is Zionist in my previous post. I would very much like to know, so that I in the future I don't step on people like you.

Please excuse me for preemptively brandmarking you. Your stereotypes about Europe are typical of zionist europe-bashing propaganda. Where did you get them from ?

1) calm down

2) as stated before it is not just the US media distorting the truth, but the world wide media for their respective countries. It is a form of rhetoric, and if people are ignorant enough to believe it, so be it. For those that deny ignorance, all the more power to them.

3) Thomas, I saw that avatar before but it read, "How about a nice hot cup of shut the **** up."

What's wrong with identifying the sources of a certain type of propaganda ? Doesnt that help looking behind the scenes, the purpose of this board ? American opinions are tainted with right-wing zionist propaganda (Iraq is dangerous, Iran is dangerous, Europe (and especially France) is evil, Beware of Muslims, Hizbollah is terrorist, Syria is a monster, Palestinians are animals, Arafat should be brandmarked terrorist and forgotten as soon as possible) in mixture with capitalist-militarist thinking, while european opinions emanate from a tradition of rational universalism. Rational, because we want actually to see proof of WMD and 45 minutes threats, universalists, because we believe in the equality all religions and races. All men are equal, and should live together peacefully.

As a french saying goes 'La raison est gale en tous les hommes.', a devastating statement for all kind of religious or racist bigots.
